Ask HN: If Waymo is so groundbreaking, why does LA transport still suck?
surges like uber(expensive) coworkers agree too: at night when i get off work. bus lines go down at night too leaving stranded having me walking 14 blocks to reach(hopefully catch) the last bus thats gets me closest to home..

Car dependency is a feature of LA, not a bug. And not a secret one gradually discovers — LA is famous for exactly that. How would Waymo make anything but the smallest dent? How many people who don’t have a car in LA can afford Waymo or Uber?

Waymo and the like perpetuate car dependency, they don't alleviate it even a little. They are not solutions.

Agree about perpetuating car dependency. In theory Uber and Waymo replace multiple cars with fewer cars. In practice they just put more cars on the road.

LA specifically practically requires residents to drive everywhere due to distance and decades of car-centric urban design. I grew up in LA.

None of the transport options you mentioned are Waymo? Why would Waymo fix a lack of buses?
