It's not at all clear how this messaging fits with his financial interests, as unstable and conservative governments won't invest in electric transport, nor will they purchase more Starlink or satellite launches than the stable ones. Perhaps they will tweet more. So this seems less calculated about wealth and more about power.

> It's not at all clear how this messaging fits with his financial interests

Why assume that what he is doing must make sense? Past displays of very smart and logical behavior in no way guarantees future logical behavior.

There is even a name for the phenomenon where once a person is recognized for previous accomplishments of their intelligence, they might be more prone to go on flights of fancy: Nobel disease. [0]

> being universally hailed as correct appears to bolster the individual laureate's confirmation bias more than it does their skepticism.

Elon Musk is like Donald Trump. They will say anything, whether they actually believe it or not, to get more attention on themselves and try to stay relevant.

They are very similar; they can both say anything (even nonsense) and they have a tribe of sensitive people who will lose the plot if anyone challenges their statements.

The biggest problem for Musk is that he can't run for president himself. Which may or may not be a shame for the USA, but I do wish he could run for president anyhow. Perhaps trump could arrange the supreme court to fix that issue.

I think it’s an extreme version of Schadenfreude. Wasn’t that also something that came up in his biography that he is addicted to drama?

To be honest I don’t think he believes this extreme right wing ideology but stirs the pot for his own twisted entertainment.

I’m really not sure that they should be dignifying that idiot’s nonsense with a response. Just ignore him, and he’ll move onto some other attention-seeking behaviour.

Who cares what Elon Musk thinks? Like genuinely. Maybe folks outside of hacker space do but does any hacker seriously care about Musk?

Might have been a throw away comment but it’s not untrue.

The comment was intended to have an effect, while pretending to be just an observation.

Neither is it true. So in essence all we have is a throwaway comment made by someone for the sake of it.
