Ask HN: What Are the Alternatives to Cloudflare?
What do you suggest as an alternative to CloudFlare?

I just want something simple I can point my domain name at and it will speed up my WordPress website by caching assets.

Fastly, bunnycdn (if you're ok with just CDN), basedflare, quic.cloud, ...

Search for CDN or for "CloudFlare alternatives". There's a few more available on the https://lowendtalk.com/ forums.

Fastly is indeed fast. I did find the realized cost to be 10x more expensive that Cloudflare for my CDN/video/compute needs, and I found the Fastly sales team to be a tad aggressive. However the performance is usually better than alternatives, if I had the money.

Hi! Fastly employee here — we're working on improving our accessibility for individuals/ smaller workloads. Not sure your monthly bandwidth usage, but we do have a dev test account which can be used for up $50 free traffic (it's pretty generous, more than enough for a test site) and now includes two TLS certs: https://www.fastly.com/blog/your-most-requested-update-for-f...

Also, I lead a program at Fastly called Fast Forward, which stewards our open internet efforts — if your work is related to FOSS we may be able to arrange free services or deep, deep discounts: https://www.fastly.com/fast-forward :)

The outages this week have been rough. But outages can and will happen in any provider. I think the better goal is to find a way to use upstream providers in a more resilient way. When they are down, can you have fallbacks to another provider, or will that be too much engineering effort? Don't look for a provider that will be up 100% of the time, but figure out how to make sure your service isn't down when Cloudflare is down.

No specific suggestion, but a useful keyword for searching would be "CDN".
