I am considering it. I prefer to not worry about hosting at all, but if I am forced to think about it, I would rather use a hosting provider that I’m already familiar with. If hosting my own server is too much work, or has other downsides I’m not seeing, I will reluctantly choose an indie provider - probably hachyderm since it is run and used by people I trust.

Well if we're talking about building castles on other people's land, it's a Faustian bargain scenario where you blindly trust the landlord, and you have to play 'tenant', so ideally everyone should host their own instance to stop mistrust issues, but we don't live in an ideal world, so.

I am tinkering with yunohost for a week and just started my instance few days ago.

Seems like a waste of time and money. Just join one of the big ones.
