Would you hire under the current circumstances? I wouldn't. How long am I going to have a job? A week? A month? How long am I going to want to have that job?

If you had the need, then hiring now means you have more/better candidates than usual. For job-seekers, now might be a good time to get in and have influence and opportunities for advancement, plus scope to work without excess bureaucracy, for the sort of candidate that would appeal to him?

Ah, sorry, bad wording. Would you hire on under the circumstances? Would you take a job there under the circumstances? I would not.

Seems like the "Whaling and Culling" theory is playing out as speculated. Also, I'm surprised they still have 2700 employees left. The "reporting" last week made it sound like everyone but a small handful left the company.

looks like much of the "excitement" was old media (and new) trying to stir things up and make it look like things were "bad" over at TWTTR because of the new CEO.

He's rough but effective. Other CEO's would have taken months or even years to layoff staff to reorient the company's workforce towards a new goal. They would have waited until the new year after the holidays. Musk does a big chunk or most of it in less than a month. Ouch!

Low level staff have the opportunity of a lifetime to move up now that everything is up for grabs. I hope they take advantage of the situation if the decided to stay.

I bet other CEO's are watching and we'll see them use similar methods in the future.

The festive season might've made for a bit of a bookend. Have to do it now otherwise the "fired two weeks before xmas!" stories get more aggressive. Though I imagine he was just trying to act fast and not necessarily thinking about this at all!
