I am all for people taking appropriate steps to improve privacy.

For friends and family who like gmail and Google in general, I recommend going into settings and disallow the data collection that is configurable. I use gmail in addition to ProtonMail and Apple mail. I request that the only history Google keeps on me is 3 months of my YouTube viewing so I can get recommendations.

I also try to get people to make using private browser tabs the default.

For myself, I feel like I walk a thin line between privacy and getting things done easily.

Why this obsession with anti-Google and no mention of anti-Microsoft?

Today it's much easier to leave Microsoft than it is Google.

Google is becoming pretty evil while Microsoft has improved tremendously since the 90s. Personally I don't use any Microsoft product but I'm stuck trying to leave Google products. Specifically gmail, docs etc.

But gmail and gdocs are actually also quite easy to leave behind. gdocs, just like office 365 are severely limited word processing programs. Every time I have to use one of them, which fortunately is not that often, I find bugs or sluggishness or even breakage.

Lots of very ordinary features missing. Mishandling of lists and nested lists (pet peave of mine). Unintuitive handling of styling when a paragraph break occurs and such things. The list goes on. Very sub-par functionality. Most people might not need more, but I personally cannot stand it, when things are directly formatted and formatting rules are not put in styles. It is as if your styled all HTML of a website directly and completely forgot about CSS existing.

MS office was always behind on enabling the users to use styles instead of directly formatting every single thing of a kind, when looking at free libre alternatives. Same goes for gdocs. I would not call either of the two "professional".

These two problems (Windows and Office) are already solved - at least for a part of the population. On the other hand, avoiding Google completely is practically impossible.

Don't know about that. I personally do not use any Google services. I don't find it that hard to leave behind.

Not keen on their list of mind mapping tools. Here's the one I use which is excellent:

I use trello, I liked it cus it was simple and free and easy to get other people on. But it continually has gotten worse. They are slowly ruining its simplicity, and also adding purposefully annoying bullshit to the free version.

Eg. I had loads of boards on Trello. Then one day they say every board needs to be nested within a new construct they introduced called "workspace" or some shit. but workspaces can only hold a small amount of boards... So almost all my boards got auto archived cus they wouldnt fit into the one auto generated workspace.

I clicked the alternative on this site, (kanboard) but it looks like I need to setup my own server for it? I dunno how to do any of that shit, I am not a webdev, I'm a game dev.

The fact that they try to sell you an alternative to Minecraft is a bit ridiculous, who do they think is their target audience? Seems like a scam.

Point is to give parents a free open source alternative to Minecraft to download for their children. Free open source software is such a scam, right?! ;)
