One important factor in this is the commute. People spend far too many hours commuting, burning fuel, wearing out their cars and wasting many hours of their life staring at the tail lights of the car ahead of them. Society as whole would benefit from encouraging employer's to allow remote work where it makes sense. It would reduce unneeded exhaust emissions and make the commute of people that must drive to work much better.
