Ask HN: How does snap compare to traditional ways of installing apps on linux?
I recently switched to RubyMine from a manual install to a snap based install. I also noticed that there are a lot of applications coming as snappy packages on linux, some of them being Slack, Rocket.Chat, PyCharm, etc.

However, I still don't get how snaps are good compared to the traditional way of installing software using apt or some other package manager. For what kind of applications is snap good?

Also, what about softwares such as rbenv which is installed manually via git, what would be the pros and cons of having snappy versions of such application? Is snap the future of package management?
