I have been looking for a way to extract the x/y coordinates of people from a realtime video stream over the past week, mostly using YOLO, but also checking out other solutions.

I must say, my expectations of where things are in terms of reliability and performance have not been met. Sure on my new threadripper machine with an RTX4080 I can get a decent realtime result, but this is for a month long art installation in another country..

On a Raspberry Pi 3b+ I can decode one frames every 2.5 seconds using the smallest model. Nwed to consider my old notebook.

Have you tried Jetson boards. Jetson Orin Nano have pretty decent gpu for $500.

I agree there are many out there using fake outrage for personal gain and ladder climbing. In this case DHH's frat club behavior was publicly called out. Instead of accepting responsibility he called timeout to cover his own behind. 37 lost business and credibility from the fallout. That's hardly harmless.

I’m not up to speed on this, is there something I’m missing in the article or is there some other context you could share?

Employees came forward that 37 kept a list of "funny" customer names - some offensive and racist. Instead of fixing the problem Fried and DHH banned employees talking about it. Later it came out DHH was a contributor to the list. https://www.theverge.com/2021/4/27/22406673/basecamp-politic...

It's not always the money. Many academics labs are toxic work environments compare to industry labs.

I wonder participating in ISS was a mistake for Japan. It sucked up most of Japan's space program budget with very little to show for.

I have a Bolt and the brake pads rarely get used. It's almost all regenerative braking, I would bet it's much better than ICE cars.

Tire wear on the other hand... :(

I love the little hand flap that does max regen. Bolt could be a cult classic too bad GM was in such hurry to kill it.

For those interested in a no-code solution, I was able to do something similar in Figma with help of some plugins:

1. Use Mapcrate plugin to pull in OSM layers as vector layers: https://www.figma.com/community/plugin/1251030017228239072/v...

2. Extrude polygon layers using Fig3d: https://www.figma.com/community/plugin/946020080871644950/fi...

Whether or not Tim Sweeney has a legal leg to stand on, I'm so happy he keeps fighting this. Likewise with Spotify. I love that the EU is pushing legislation to give at least some people back control of their devices.

I'm curious why Tim Cook thinks Apple can continue to treat developers they way they do for years on end and it won't slowly but surely come to bite them hard one day.

zyang · a year ago
Tim Sweeney could lead by example and remove Unreal royalty fees and make his app store free for all. There's no freedom fighter here. Just another greedy troll.

It's insane how many companies went down the "full self driving by 2020" rabbit hole.
