Where's the gouge? DDR5 prices went up more than the 50% they increased their price by.

I wish prices went only 50% more... I see 300+% on the market now.

No matter how the ad is made, it is still an ad. What's probably more important is the message. And this one was dumb as a message and as a real bad advice contributing to the increasingly brainless population who nowadays believes they can go into woods and everything there is friendly if you smile enough.

Note that nothing in the article is AI-specific: the entire argument is built around the cost of persuasion, with the potential of AI to more cheaply generate propaganda as buzzword link.

However, exactly the same applies with, say, targeted Facebook ads or Russian troll armies. You don't need any AI for this.

yehat · 18 days ago
Well well... recent "feature" of X revealing the actual "actors" location of operation shows how much "Russian troll armies" are there.. turns out there're rather overwhelming Indian and Bangladesh armies working hard for who? Common, say it! And despite of that, while cheap, not that cheaper compared to when the "agentic" approach enters the game.

How so? In Sweden we have digital ID and it's great! Super practical and I struggle to think of how it would be used to spy on citizens, given that it has the same legal protections as banks have regarding your account transactions etc.

Like sure you could in theory see every document I've ever signed if you have a warrant for BankID servers, but you could probably glean most of that if you had a warrant for the banks servers anyway, so it's not really a new capability.

Sweet how the OP is about something that exactly corresponds to what EU wants badly too - chat control - but you decide to talk about Digital ID. OK wait a bit more, then your beautiful DID will start making more sense.

Raising $207B is plausible vs the dozens of Nuclear Power plants they also need.

No, they can use the ideas from The Matrix for power delivery.

That's interesting, given that scientists don't even know what the "time" is. But if that study helps finding those answers, I guess it is just fine to continue the push.

Unfortunately, the bold title of that "project" doesn't hold well to subject that it pretends to cover. Maybe not complete, but that should be stated. For example - why since 3000 BC? Why "World History", the World started 3000 BC? I can continue about the mixing of "states" and populations" neither of which is complete on that map. I would get this as a nice try, but in reality it looks like a school assignment project.

Right, but there aren't many with the kind of ugliness associated with real-world Perl code.

yehat · a month ago
Well, what Perl code is not real-world? And by ugly you mean what - not verbose or what? Something is ugly for ones, but nice to others. I doubt that really is a factor driving a demise of language, otherwise features like regexes would be non-existent today.

Google is about to find out the next step of this chain - give access to everyone, don't gatekeep / do checks, and yet take responsibility for anything that goes wrong.

"You should open up the tool, put no restrictions, and yet ensure that it is safe and secure" is an impossible task for anyone.

How it was working till now for so many years, now suddenly can't?

I suppose you have the right to do whatever you want with it, including zapping it in the microwave or using it as a rectal probe. I am not sure that right extends are far as forcing companies to deliver a product to your specifications (open software, hardware, or otherwise)

You won't believe it, but many years ago the TVs for sale where required to come with their full schematics and they really did.
