Not to be too sarcastic, but it always kills me when people who pride themselves as being original and contrarian turn out to be total conformists. This seems to be very common among founders/vc’s as of late.

How does liking music make someone a “conformist”? I don’t know anyone who thinks, “I need to make sure my music taste conforms to societal norms.” People add songs to their playlists because they like them.

I was expecting this to just be another AI API wrapper, but I really like Neuro Tools. I’ve been given a whole alphabet to describe my brain, and I think I could actually benefit from using these tools. The most success I’ve had so far in changing my behavior has come through reflection, and I like that reflection is a key aspect of these tools. One idea for an additional tool would be to have a “reality check” tool. I often believe that I can accomplish an impossible amount of work in one day. It would be great to have a tool that helps schedule work in a more feasible way. So if I say, “I’m going to work on this paper for six hours today and eight hours tomorrow,” it would challenge that and say something like “Let’s start with accomplishing two paragraphs today and see what else you’re up to.”

he was a physics and math major and did not know eigenvectors and eigenvalues? i would like to know how is this possible. can someone explain it to me?

I asked myself the same thing. The article said “learn” Linear Algebra, not “review” Linear Algebra. Do some undergrad math programs not teach Linear Algebra?

> “participants in most cases preferred ChatGPT’s take on the matter at hand.”

That doesn’t come as a surprise to me. I’ve tried several modalities and intensities of therapy from CBT and DBT to Psychoanalysis, and I find ChatGPT more beneficial. A crucial benefit of ChatGPT is its 24/7 availability. By reducing the barrier to availability, it becomes much easier to get help as unhealthy beliefs and behaviors emerge. Perhaps, LLMs could augment clinician understanding of the environmental factors that trigger patient symptoms.

There is also Joyce's Java Version of Euclid's Elements:

https://mathcs.clarku.edu/~djoyce/java/elements/elements.htm...

and I'm still impressed by the custom Unity tools which Freya Holmér uses for her videos:

Wish Geogebra was both more capable and widely used:

https://www.geogebra.org/

That said, these days if I need to plot out something I just use OpenSCAD: https://openscad.org/ (or, the Python-enabled version: https://pythonscad.org/ )

Grant Sanderson's YouTube channel 3blue1brown and his Manim package have made it significantly easier to visualize math computationally: https://www.youtube.com/c/3blue1brownhttps://3b1b.github.io/manim/index.html

There's also a well supported community version as well: https://www.manim.community/

Do you think it stupid to scan kids for weapons, or stupid to think that a metal detector will find weapons?
windows_hater_7 · 10 months ago
A high school I worked at had a similar system in place called Evolv. It’s not a metal detector, but it did successfully catch a student with a loaded gun in his backpack. Granted, he didn’t mean to bring the gun to school. I think it’s stupid to believe that kids who want to bring a gun to school will arrive on time to school. They often arrive late when security procedures like bag scanning are not in place.

Who is this guy and why should we listen to him?
windows_hater_7 · a year ago
Given that he has no formal qualifications in neuroscience or any related field you shouldn’t trust him. The author of the book posted the thread. Anyone offering to offer “actionable insights to fortify the brain against degenerative diseases and enhance cognitive performance” should have a prefix of “Dr.” with MD or PhD after their name, and peer reviewed experiments as evidence. He is a “certified IT project manager” and is calling his personal anecdotes “experiments.”
