uncoder0 commented on Facebook reverses Kyle Rittenhouse policy   bbc.com/news/technology-5... · Posted by u/lxm

> Facebook said it would "still remove content that celebrates the death of the individuals killed in Kenosha". But "we will no longer remove content containing praise or support of Rittenhouse", a spokesperson said.

To be clear, for a year, Facebook banned content that would have been consistent with what an impartial jury ultimately found about the case. Which would have corrected a misleading media narrative about the situation.

The NYT has a good video of what happened with Rittenhouse: https://www.nytimes.com/video/us/100000007409660/kyle-ritten.... Apart from the voice overs, it’s nearly identical to the pro-Rittenhouse videos circulating back in 2020. If you watched these videos, the jury verdict would have been totally unsurprising to you.

Facebook is very damaging to the fabric of society and this is just further evidence of it all. If Facebook employed an even remotely accurate sample of the population based on political leanings and backgrounds for their content policy team this would have never happened. I think the amount of blame the left and media placed on Facebook for the 2016 election of President Trump are to majorly to blame for the whole situation.

Well that seems really expensive to enforce.

Covid increases your chances of myocarditis by an order of magnitude, so it seems obvious that the vaccine that prevents covid is the way to go.

Is this true for the young male population? I've not seen that data.

While you're at it, please shift to metric! Feet for altitude, nautical miles for distance, statute miles for visibility, metres for runway visual range (most often)...

Take a plane that has a glide ratio of 1:10, say. It's 1 km high. How far can it glide? 10 km.

Now it's 3000 ft high. How far can it glide, in nautical miles?

uncoder0 · 4 years ago
My mental math told me ~5 nautical miles, I checked and I was off by 0.07. Metric would be nice but most people who have flown can do the rough math in their heads.

Unfortunately, American elections are rarely about policy. Nor are the actions of our current Congress. And there doesn't seem to be a trend towards substantive and rational discussion about the problems we face and possible solutions.

As long as we are in the grip of individuals and groups who have learned to use social media in order to gain and retain power, what "most Americans want" will be drowned out in a flood of disinformation, manipulation and distraction.

'Individuals and groups' It's not that.. It's just Capital and it's always been Capital.

>The root of the criticism is that a sitting president wields a lot or authority and is not supposed to tout experimental treatments.

I hope the irony of this is not lost on readers.

Probably a dumb email to send everyone. Not sure it makes sense to call it "triggering"... but that also seemed to be the intent?

There seem to be stereotypes and now stereotypes of things people assume when they think of other... stereotypes? Very confusing.

All around kinda absurd.

Where I'm from fried food of many types is common if not expected at medium to large gatherings. It keeps pretty well and is almost universally liked, especially when you have good sides. I think people are reading too much into every word because of the groups he's promoting.

This becomes incredibly interesting in terms of e.g. Denuvo. This anti-piracy middleware has been shown to make games unplayable, and this EU law seems to support removing it.

I can't believe studios let their publishers force this kind of tech into their run loops.
