the biggest problem with switching away from Mac is losing the ecosystem benefits. When Apple TV automatically knows to fill your iCloud password, all the Apple Watch integration, syncing everything from notes to reminders. I can't see how any Linux can match all that.

If you ever want to experience pure hell, go on antipsychotics for a month. They totally eviscerate your ability to be creative. I was given them during a misdiagnosis of mental health issues and I think I'd rather choose to be homeless instead of going back on them for any reason. Also don't make the mistake I did and quit them cold turkey. If you don't taper them off, you can have seizures. Not fun.

Should be obvious, but ability to function triumphs ability to be 'creative'. Hell with creativity in fact. It comes last in the list of priorities..

Have you tried to use Windows lately? I have one for a media PC. It's so insanely terrible, the ads, the popups, the nags, the dark patterns. Microsoft has given up on personal desktops, just milking the elderly with scams. Terrible

I haven't. When I read that I was wondering if you were going to say it got better and is good now or something. Oh well. Good to know. Thanks for the info.

We all only have so much time on this earth. Why is it fair for some folks to spend a disproportionate amount of that time toiling away for basic sustenance while others spend their days on their personal hotel sized yachts?
tw600040 · 3 months ago
When someone asks how something is fair - coming back with life is like that or life isn't fair is not a valid response. Humanity should strive to make the systems as fair as possible while accepting the fact that unfairness will still exist. Why will theft etc be a crime if not for the idea of fairness. You can make the same life is unfair argument to defend theft but that's not the way it should be / is.

Not related to this post, but why in the world is anyone using TUI. Either go with GUI or go with commandline. This no man's land in the middle is the worst of both worlds..

>>>It's bad for our products and for our European users. We will continue to work with the European Commission to help them understand our concerns on behalf of our users,

... surely consumers don't like interoperability on hardware or software. They like to get locked in(i.e. use a different charger for each single device and use their devices only with apple services<i.e. iCloud>).

I think Apple should correct that statement into " We will continue to work with the European Commission to help them understand our concerns on behalf of our *shareholders*".

tw600040 · 6 months ago
It's not about whether consumers like interoperability or not.

If scenario-1 - is no interoperability but superior user experience]

scenario-2 - is interoperability with subpar user experience

there are those that would rather have the former than the latter. Pretty sure Apple can provide a better user experience without the constraint of interoperability than otherwise.

Potentially. It really just means your data is stored unencrypted, so anybody that has access to Apple's servers can access your data. I don't believe any government has open access to Apple's servers, but they can get a warrant.

I just realized ADP is not same as Lockdown mode. which Apple mentioned that only people that are likely to be targets need to turn on.

Now I don't see any reason why I shouldn't turn ADP on. Turning on now.

Ok, I am not very technical. Can someone help me understand this. I don't have Advanced data Protection on. Does that mean UK Gov can see my data now?

Wouldn't you have to prove damages in a lawsuit like this? What damages does Musk personally suffer if OpenAI has in fact broken their contract?
tw600040 · 2 years ago
that AGI, instead of benefitting the whole world, in which Musk is a part of, will end up only benefitting Microsoft, which he isn't a part of?

I am getting conflicting opinions on this, so I will ask. My company has filed a 485 for me (currently on H1) and my wife is a dependent. My wife is currently on O1 and her company wants to file a separate 485 for her (with me as dependent) for backup. But my company's attorneys are telling me that's not recommended and it's better to withdraw one before filing another. Is that so or can 2 485s be filed?
