> There’s an old startup mantra — probably from the early Airbnb or Y Combinator days — that goes: “Do things that don’t scale.”

Yes, it was posted again just the other day: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44913359

It's definitely the first result on Google and sort of ruins any credibility of the article.

Is this a joke?

AI helps but isn’t needed: With Cursor/Claude Code or Neovim + Supermaven, I can write my entire day’s schedule in 5 minutes. The AI completes my sentences, predicts meeting times, memorizes how I write tasks.

FreeBSD is the first thing I try to install on a new laptop. Once I play around for an hour I install Linux for the hardware support and move on.

I can't wait until the experience is good enough that I can stay on it.

I used the Flash predecessor to generate audio for my mobile game Cobalt Dungeon. It had pretty much the same controls and generated WAV files as well. Basically find something close to what you want then mutate it a whole bunch and then you're good to go.

This is likely easily gamed by asking the LLM to provide a number of intermediate versions of the output. You still have to do some yak shaving in google docs, but nothing too hard.

That's true. Ultimately I suppose it's a relatively short game of cat and mouse... Twenty year old calculators can show the work after all.

An obvious solution is to require the use of Google docs and include the history as part of the assignment. If there is no sign of sentence restructuring then fail the assignment.

This is the equivalent of asking students to show their work when they do math problems and that is how we thwarted those evil calculators.

Is this an actual SLR replacement / anyone know the RAW size and print size at 300dpi?

Last time I sent iPhone photos into my print shop they kicked them back.

> Is this an actual SLR replacement

There's just no way to replace the massive 35mm sensor of a larger DSLR / mirrorless camera. The amount of light gathered can only be simulated by capturing many frames. True depth of field can only be emulated by imperfectly blurring estimated background area via software, leading to goofy blurred hairs. Even the reported megapixels of a smartphone contain a quarter or less the equivalent DSLR resolution detail (a 24MP smartphone photo is roughly equivalent to the detail of a 6MP DSLR photo).

At least the price of a used Intel Mac will plummet. They sometimes make for good Linux machines.
