> It runs Android 12 and will be supported for three years of monthly security updates and two major Android version upgrades.

And that's why I stick to iPhones for long-lasting devices, those two major versions are a joke. Apple has the crown with seven on the iPhone 6S. When will someone make Android phones other than Pixels with non-abysmal software support? Yes, I know you can install alternate ROMs on your phone, but this is not what the general public does, especially with a phone at this price point. The average joe will definitely change his phone after three years when they cannot install whatsapp or messenger or their banking app anymore.

That said, kudos to Nokia for entering this market, I genuinely hope it will be profitable enough for them to keep it up!

I mean, they use Rails, and Ruby/Rails are annoying to use on Windows. I imagine Windows is a massive headache not worth dealing with considering their stack...

I unsubscribed from Ali Abdal's youtube channel for this same reason. I have the utmost respect for him and I'm amazed at how well he manages his life. However, i always felt anxious after watching his videos. This video to be exact made me feel like shit and made me decide I should unsubscribe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQSKyvjsUuI

Lots of folks here arguing that the focus on TikTok is unfair, given the data collection practices of domestic corps like Facebook. From a privacy point of view, this argument is well-founded, but I think it's tangential to the argument TFA is making, which is: this data collection done by a foreign government and exploited for surveillance or espionage is a national security risk.

I get it. We want corps to stop hoovering up our data because they can use it to manipulate us with advertising, and they can mishandle it such that other bad actors can exploit it. I'm with you, this is a valid concern that we should address. But I think TikTok's specific case warrants additional concern because it's all that, plus it puts a geopolitical adversary in control of the data, countless devices, and a media channel central to the current cultural zeitgeist.

I don't think it's reasonable to wait for general regulation of social media corps while TikTok continues to do its thing, particularly if targeted action against TikTok is politically viable.

Edit: typo

Why do Americans think they represent the world? Your adversary is not our adversary.

What social media company in the US bans positive coverage of mRNA vaccines?

In the US algorithms ban content, often by mistake. In China a political official or someone working for the government reviews the content personally. Big difference.

Twitter bans negative coverage

We (Grafana) are just about to roll out https://www.simpplr.com/ internally.

We've been using a mix of tools until now, Guru, Google Docs... but have lacked discoverability, powerful search, and in Google the ability to create sites for teams, etc.

Personally I use Obsidian and the files are sync'd via Syncthing.

What I wish would exist: A markdown driven wiki with Git (or something like it) in the backend so that you can clone the info locally, or refer to the master version, and even stage big changes to an area, etc. - basically something halfway between Obsidian and Confluence I guess.

AzureDevops wiki is exactly that. A git repo for markdown files

No. One important aspect of the book that doesn't appear in the title is: People who get really good at something useful, also enjoy their work a lot more. The public view is often that passion leads to success. But the book argues that in many cases it is actually the other way around.

I'm just as fascinated by the valve at the base of the stomach, called the pyloric sphincteric cylinder. It uses an ingenious mechanism to selectively pass liquid and very small particles to the small intestine, while keeping larger chunks in the stomach for further digestion. It functions like a screen or filter, but with a simple, robust, and reliable structure.

Here's a fantastic (and free) book about just this structure:

I'm convinced that who ever came up with this valve was inspired by anuses. Its a clever way to dispense honey without making a mess.
