How’s your 13 mini holding up? I have a recently refurbished one (6 months old) and I can’t make it to 2pm without recharging.

Additional my mail search and photo search broke with Apple Intelligence/iOS18 integration.

Debating jumping ship to a epaper phone or holding out for the rumored iPhone Air.

I was able to get a new battery and screen for my 13 mini via AppleCare, but even the new battery won't get me through the day. Recent OS updates also make my camera shooting experience really slow for some reason.

Even with all that, I'm keeping the mini as long as possible because every year brings bigger and heavier iPhones.

Is that GPT5? Reddit users are freaking out about losing 4o and AFAICT it's because 5 doesn't stroke their ego as hard as 4o. I feel there are roughly two classes of heavy LLM users - one who use it like a tool, and the other like a therapist. The latter may be a bigger money maker for many LLM companies so I worry GPT5 will be seen as a mistake to them, despite being better for research/agent work.

When Apple's MobileMe came out I snagged the localhost@me.com email address, thinking how clever I was. But because filtering tools weren't as good back then I was never able to use it because of the truly massive amount of spam and test emails I'd get.

This happens are concerts. It's endemic and has spolit the event, globally. Recently I saw a film director talk and all phones were locked away. Everyone in the room (2000 people) got to hear, and see, what they'd come for. I wish more events would do this. I really do.

I saw Phoenix a few weeks ago outside the US. The lead singer tried to crowd surf, but the crowd around/under him were so focused on photographing the moment that he wasn't able to stay up.

I agree a lot with what she's saying about press trying to build an image of him as a young kid. But, at the end of the day, regardless of how the press frames things, it isn't like he's going to end up in juvenile hall. He will be tried as an adult.

As someone who's turning 50 soon, 30 seems like several lifetimes ago for me. Age is this weird thing and you only realize it more and more as you get older.

He did incredible work.

The Four Horsemen from his band Aphrodite's Child really shows off his impressive prog-rock chops as well as showcasing a fantastic video of the band's persona (as well as a lot of Ouzo shots): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KCbqhJt16k

Dammit, I was hoping Twitter would change their ToS to exclude any politicians from Florida from signing up to the service.

Could Twitter change its ToS to say something like "If you're a politician from FL you can't use Twitter" and see who blinks?

Twitter is the closest thing to 1984's "Two Minutes Hate."

Wikipedia: "In the dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949), by George Orwell, the Two Minutes Hate is the daily, public period during which members of the Outer Party of Oceania must watch a film depicting the enemies of the state, specifically Emmanuel Goldstein and his followers, to openly and loudly express hatred for them.

The political purpose of the Two Minutes Hate is to allow the citizens of Oceania to vent their existential anguish and personal hatreds towards politically expedient enemies: Goldstein and the enemy superstate of the moment. In re-directing the members' subconscious feelings away from the Party's government of Oceania, and towards non-existent external enemies, the Party minimises thoughtcrime and the consequent, subversive behaviours of thoughtcriminals."

And from the book itself: "The horrible thing about the Two Minutes Hate was not that one was obliged to act a part, but that it was impossible to avoid joining in. Within thirty seconds any pretence was always unnecessary. A hideous ecstasy of fear and vindictiveness, a desire to kill, to torture, to smash faces in with a sledge hammer, seemed to flow through the whole group of people like an electric current, turning one even against one's will into a grimacing, screaming lunatic. And yet the rage that one felt was an abstract, undirected emotion which could be switched from one object to another like the flame of a blowlamp."

And you want me to freaking pay to be a part of this process? And you won't even take away the ads for a paying member?

Or as @maplecocaine succinctly put in tweet form: "Each day on twitter there is one main character. The goal is to never be it"[0].

There's a LOT to improve about the hate on Twitter. I also think that trolls and griefers who don't have an audience snuff themselves out. If paying can make a dent in that I'm interested.
