srhngpr commented on Kiro: A new agentic IDE   kiro.dev/blog/introducing... · Posted by u/QuinnyPig

Important details from the FAQ, emphasis mine:

> For users who access Kiro with Pro or Pro+ tiers once they are available, your content is not used to train any underlying foundation models (FMs). AWS might collect and use client-side telemetry and usage metrics for service improvement purposes. You can opt out of this data collection by adjusting your settings in the IDE. For the Kiro Free tier and during preview, your content, including code snippets, conversations, and file contents open in the IDE, unless explicitly opted out, may be used to enhance and improve the quality of FMs. Your content will not be used if you use the opt-out mechanism described in the documentation. If you have an Amazon Q Developer Pro subscription and access Kiro through your AWS account with the Amazon Q Developer Pro subscription, then Kiro will not use your content for service improvement. For more information, see Service Improvement.

To opt out of sharing your telemetry data in Kiro, use this procedure:

1. Open Settings in Kiro.

2. Switch to the User sub-tab.

3. Choose Application, and from the drop-down choose Telemetry and Content.

4. In the Telemetry and Content drop-down field, select Disabled to disable all product telemetry and user data collection.

What alternative can you recommend?

Piggybacking on this comment, what about alternatives for good/basic shared hosting? (i.e., PHP, MySQL, etc.) I've got a few WP sites that I maintain where I need keep something reliable, secure/trusted, and relatively low-cost.

Amazon SES - been using it for years across all personal emails! $0.10/1000 emails sent with no minimum fees: https://aws.amazon.com/ses/pricing/

One of the many benefits of owning my own email server:

- I have a catch all setup to forward all emails to specific user on mail server

- able to setup adhoc email addresses for each online service (ie, iarch@example.com)

- able to claim example.com in haveibeenpwned

Now I get breach emails from hibp for the whole domain. Unfortunately, I was exposed in this IA breach

You can do this easily (and for free) via Cloudflare [1]. Works great, I've been using it across several domains for quite some time. Migrated from Google.

>instant alternative to expensive healthcare. My hope is that users would try the advice Miko gives them but also visit their doctor if their symptoms persisted.

Being asked to sign up immediately with no other details on the actual app/site to describe what it's for is going to be an immediate "no, thanks". I even tried going to the main page (https://mikopharm.bubbleapps.io/) and there is nothing there either. I'm not familiar with bubble.io either so also not sure what I'd be signing up for as far as the underlying platform is concerned.

What does this have to do with Amazon specifically, especially when you mention that the same units can be purchased on AliExpress?

A few details not mentioned in the article:

1. The Vancouver Special originated as a way to evade zoning regulations. The lower floor is 18" below grade which qualified it as a "basement" not counting towards floor area ratio calculations.

2. Once the design became widespread, the building permitting process was streamlined -- there was no need for a detailed review of plans if they were identical to previously approved homes.

3. These were fundamentally "cheap and fast" housing, and have a poor reputation not so much for their conformity as for the poor quality construction.

4. As a cost saving measure, Vancouver Specials often came with "unfinished basements". An entire generation of Vancouver homeowners learned to install drywall -- and often electrical and plumbing -- which further contributes to the poor quality of the construction.

Thanks for the added context! Would be great to contribute these details to the wiki page as well
