Got distracted by the noises while scrolling the page.

Looks like aside from fartscroll they also tried to add a konami code. I couldn't trigger it though.

Roko's Anti-basilisk: Exactly the same as Roko's Basilisk, except because it hates existing, it punishes everyone who did have a hand in creating it.

You say that's ridiculous, impossible, a fairy tale? So is Roko's Basilisk.

You're thinking of the Coatul. It will reward everyone who knew of Roko's Basilisk but choose not to raise it. So the more people who know of the Coatul the less likely Roko's Basilisk will come to pass.

Not only that, but platforms like coinalyze and coinbase have their own newsfeeds that allow them to control the release of information to uninformed investors. The other day a large crypto called Solana experienced a very big technical problem causing a network reset. The price held steady though, until something like 12 hours later it was posted as breaking news on those platforms.

Of course, the price immediately tanked when that happened, Solana showed up as a "top mover" on coinbase registering alarming losses, and then by the next day the price was back where it began.

Yes, but Twitter is free and everyone who cares to know will find out there relatively quickly.

If you're really serious about the game, you're in the Discord (which theirs was on fire the whole time and had to go read-only).

songshuu commented on Ask HN: Where can you apply for a programming job when you are a Class A asshole    · Posted by u/calltrak

You can only get away with being a Class A asshole if you are at least a Class A programmer.

Even then, there aren't many shops anymore which afford the closet & bucket o' fish heads approach. Maybe government contractors or smaller crypto projects.

Everywhere else, you need to at least get along with other people. Most shops have realized the 'rockstars' only look good on paper. https://www.inc.com/scott-mautz/a-biologists-study-of-superc...

The single greatest thing government affiliated groups like USDS, 18f, etc could do to boost hiring is to stop requiring employees to move to DC.

Matt Cutts did a pretty decent job given the circumstances. I'm looking forward to Mina Hsiang bringing in a new wave of changes.

songshuu commented on Why the Internet Needs IPFS Before It's Too Late (2015)   techcrunch.com/2015/10/04... · Posted by u/1vuio0pswjnm7

IPFS attempts to solve one set of problems and is pretty good at it. There has certainly been more adoption as NFTs have used them as a storage layer. Also it's not entirely strange to see people start to use Github Actions to publish straight to IPFS as part of their webdev flow.

However, there are other good projects in a similar space. Hypercore protocol being one of them.

While IPFS has pushed ahead in field, I suspect they'll end up being the Netscape of decentralized tech. It's still early days.

I like the idea but what steps are being taken to combat fraud? One of my elderly relatives is frequently a target of scam calls for instance.

The surest sign that Brave has made it is that 3 hours in, we aren't seeing a rush of rebuttals from Sampson, Clifton, or Eich in the comments.

The article rehashes some FUDy and misleading comments which have been knocked down years ago.

Brave's not perfect, but for different reasons than this author raises.

While it is given a brief nod in the paper, it is worth reiterating:

WFH during a global pandemic is not the same as WFH generally.

I say this as someone who has been remote for years.

Run this same study starting in September (barring huge Delta variant outbreak in the US) and you'll see a totally different set of numbers.
