I agree, Organic Maps is often better than Google Maps for walkable trails, bicycle and hiking paths. I found there are some paths mapped on OSM that are not mapped at all on GMaps.

On the other hand, GMaps is better for up-to-date commercial data like stores and their opening hours. Its navigation system is better too. As much as I'd like to drop all Google services from my life, Maps is too useful to let go.

This largly depends on the location you are referring to. In many german places / cities, OSM data is often more accurate than Google Maps, even for commercial infos like opening hours. In the end it is up to people to ensure data is up-to-date. Apps like StreetComplete can help with that. Organic Maps also allows for some editing.

“Merge and decist” - these are some strong words. Particularly when the previous paragraphs called for a de-escalative approach and a meeting of minds. I don’t see how public admonishment could possibly be productive towards the stated goals.

Did you read through the linked issue in total?

Nice writeup.

It is a serious problem that the ecosystem is held back by wasting resources on personal disputes with immediate consequences for end users.

Hate on OpenPGP all you want, it still is an important technology with unrealized potential and growth.

Outstanding work. There is some finetuning needed and the ecosystem needs to catch up - looking at you Firefox and KeePassDX, probably more. But this really is a milestone. So glad KeePassXC exists and allowed me to transition over from 1Password.

Every time a new MacOS version is announced the 1Password staff must be all sitting around praying Apple doesn't add any more bells and whistles to Keychain.

1Password overdid it a while ago for me and I switched to KeePassXC. It is certainly not as polished as 1Password but the developer team is very responsive and since I started using it, especially on macOS, things have improved a lot already. It is a pleasure to watch things evolve and Passkey support is the next big thing that will be added. Compared to Keychain Access, KeePassXC works cross platform and I need that, since my devices are cross platform. Also helps to avoid vendor lock-in.

Probably the important part of the announcement is:

Four of the major functionalities missing in the first official release of macOS Sonoma are:

Entire message data is not always passed to the extension making processing the encrypted message impossible
    Reliably encrypted drafts
Support for setting the default state of the sign and encrypt button in compose windows which can lead to dangerous side-effects
Sign and encrypt button could go out of sync with internal state, if keyring changes are detected
Really hope this will be added to the API.

When did you last refresh your data? It seems at least a year out of date compared to OSM as there are shops I've added that aren't showing.
sleepless · 2 years ago
Confirming the outdated map data lacking many changes that are present in OSM.

Jellyfin is awesome. I just wish the default client would allow music playback without stuttering when screen is off on android https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-android/issues/39

So does version 2 of Affinity Photo add support for AVIF? Can't find it listed on https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/photo/full-feature-list/ (rather hard to search, since sections have to be uncollapsed one by one).

Strange price model where existing customers do not get an upgrade discount.
