Frasier was definitely funny in a 'witty' sort of way, but Seinfeld is just classic somehow, IMO.

they are apples and oranges. two best shows, in their own ways.

Interesting to hear. I watched Cheers, almost religiously (a time ago, I suppose), and I could just never get into Frasier. I'm not sure I've ever laughed as hard as I did when watching Cheers; it unfortunately doesn't hold up all that well, but I still hold it dear nonetheless.

It's been a while, but maybe I'll give Frasier another shot, even if only as some quasi-filler. :)

Many US states have ongoing school indoor mask mandates. Also Czechia and Hungary are the two European countries most at risk of backsliding from democracy into authoritarianism.

This reminds me of the 2019 Canadian federal election. There was a new party in that election led by a man named Maxime Bernier called the People's Party. They're a far-right populist party and generally awful. Bernier himself was running in Beauce, Quebec, which he had represented through the Conservative party since 2006 before he had created the People's Party.

But then the Rhinoceros Party, a satirical political party, announced a new candidate for Beauce named... Maxime Bernier. When asked about the confusion, the Rhinoceros Party's Maxime Bernier said, "If you're not sure, then vote for both!".

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/maxime-bernier-rhino...

The Conservative candidate won with 22817 votes, the People's Party candidate came second with 16772, and the Rhinoceros Party candidate came last with 1072 votes and another 1147 were rejected. This left the People's Party with no seats in parliament.

If PPC is "far right", can you imagine how far left Canadian liberals must be.

I think my comment is a bit centered around the Chinese experience.

A lot of smaller Chinese restaurants are just one guy at a wok standing near the entrance and a bunch of stools inside (sometimes also outside). They're commonly a husband and wife team, where the husband cooks and the wife acts as a runner or takes orders when it's too busy to bark what you want at the cook, but sometimes it's just the one person. If you get there early, sometimes the wife is preparing mise en place at one of the tables, or on a stool out front.

Another common layout for larger restaurants is tables and stools on the inside plus a small counter to pay, but there's a window at the back going into the kitchen where they might have a couple of cooks and more space to prep.

In both of these cases it's not unusual for customers to know the owners and engage in some smalltalk, whether about the food, or whatever other thing. It's a lot like a classic diner in the US, or a UK "caff".

These QR code ordering systems tend to be in place at a different type of restaurant. They are more like strip mall chain restaurants with optimized seating and standardized menus and nobody knows anyone or cares. Personally I don't see the point of these sorts of places, because if you're just getting Sysco-style meals without any service then you could cut out the middle man and buy the meal without going to a restaurant.

I really enjoy reading your comments :) Thanks! And I fully agree with you about how the restaurant restaurant should be.

What made you 99.99% before reading this? I have seen plenty of experts saying that they don't know how long immunity will last.

Anecdotal data: my wife and I got COVID twice 9 months apart last year. The second time my wife ended up in the hospital.

Aren't pcr tests notoriously unreliable? Maybe you didn't have it first time?
