This is very similar to the Stripe layoff memo at https://stripe.com/en-it/newsroom/news/ceo-patrick-collisons...
The structure of the two documents is very similar too. Is that a standard pattern of did Meta took Stripe's memo and adapted it to suit their needs?
The "convincingly exhibited" of the title is misleading. It wasn't about deceiving people, it was about world-building. It wasn't shown at a history museum.
It wasn't a hoax, but more of an artistic "mockumentary" for a made up civilization. Almost borgean...
I also wondered why there aren't deposits on plastic bottles like there are on glass bottles. In the end it should probably be up to the companies who produce them, like Coca Cola to deal with them, but there probably needs to be an incentive to return them.
I'm fairly sure I've already spent more than $100 in my time on trying to use it. So in a sense, I was gifted negative money. When I realised this I ended up throwing it in the rubbish bin.
It would have been so much more efficient for everyone involved to just send me an extra $100 in cash. Put it in an envelope with a fancy card if you want to make it special. But eh, gotta feed the gift card business.
