I saw this over on lobste.rs and came over here to see if there were any comments, because it looked like a cool project. Alas, it got even less traction here.

Heh. Sync works on chrome too. IMO tree style tabs was the best thing firefox had and they killed it.

Tree style tabs works as well as it did before, except that it's more difficult to get rid of the top tabs.

This feels like something that could be ameliorated by trustworthy curation, but The Wirecutter hasn't given good signal for years now, if it ever did, and I haven't seen anything else yet.

Maybe I should try paying for Consumer Reports

You can probably access CR for free through your local library!

I cancelled Amazon prime a couple years ago and ran into the same issue. It was absurd frankly.

I went through the cancellation process got a cancellation confirmation email and then still got billed at the end of the month. I called and they did reverse the charges and told me it had happened because a behind the scenes box was checked for automatic payments - I scoured the page to see if that was a user facing option and it was nowhere. Cancelling but continuing payments simply makes no sense.

I looked at a bunch of these 2 years ago and ended up using PhotoView for a private gallery. It had the right mix of simplicity and features, and I was actually able to get it running.

Been using it for years and watching others’ machines for how tracked they are across the web is terrifying. Even things as basic as being on clothingshop.com and then seeing ads for said shop on someotherdomain.com, which I understand is totally normal, has become jarring for me. I recommend everyone installs it. Yes, you have to click more cookie banners, and I still say no, but mind less when I cave and say yes because what they’ll learn is so limited. My temporary containers have a persistent auto increment so after a few years it’s (semi-) interesting to see that I’m on my ~20,000th temporary container
ropeladder · 2 years ago
With Temporary Tontainers you can just install one of the cookie-ignoring plugins, since cookies don't do much if your containers are ephemeral.

Yeah there’s an extension called Temporary containers that does exactly that (^:

Temporary Containers is fantastic. Its functionality should really be a core feature of any browser that claims to be concerned with privacy.

What's with the AI generated bird? If you're going to name it Trogon, it should at least look like one.

Also the bird is gigantic (relative to the laptop)!

I'm confused as to how this compares to tools in the workflow manager space such as Airflow/Perfect/Dragster. The words describing the software are almost the same but it seems to come from alternate universe of tools I'm not familiar with. Could someone fill me in?

This is good as far as it goes--I think better information can help consumers at the margins. But it's hard to imagine this will do much to actual induce competition in markets where there are only a few (or one) players and most consumers are sticky.
