I must be doing something wrong, because I can't get OpenCode to actually do anything useful, and not for lack of trying. Claude code gets me great results instantly, opencode (if I can't make it talk to a model, which isn't easy for Gemini) gets me… something, but it's nowhere near as useful as claude code. I don't know why there is so much difference, because theoretically there shouldn't be. Is it the prompt that Anthropic has been polishing in Claude code for so long?

Claude models in opencode use the Claude code system prompt, are you comparing Claude code to opencode with non anthropic models?

I'd wish a better model or system would go live for the inline suggestions. The Zed ones are so trash compared to Cursor's it is just laughable.

An example is that when I have a module like Namespace::SuperAbcModule in a file at namespace/super_abc_module.rb and I rename the file to namespace/super_module.rb, Cursor will immediately suggest to change the module name to `Namespace::SuperModule`, Zed won't.

Also Cursor will suggest updates to lines throughout a file whereas Zed sometimes doesn't even look ahead 1-2 lines.

Having Claude Code and Codex built into the sidebar is hardly better than having them running in a terminal. I wish they'd invested all this time and effort improving the inline suggestions.

Your downvoted but this is the worst part of using zed today and i really hope they can come up with a solution

Some excellent points. On “add selection to chat”, I just want to add that the Claude Code VS code extension automatically passes the current selection to the model. :)

I am genuinely curious if any Cursor or Windsurf users who have also tried Claude Code could speak to why they prefer the IDE-fork tools? I’ve only ever used Claude Code myself - what am I missing?

rhodysurf · 6 months ago
It already does this btw, when you use Cc from the vscode terminal and select things it adds it to cc context automatically

As far as I can tell, terminal agents are inferior to hosted agents in sandboxed/imaged environments when it comes to concurrent execution and far inferior to assisted ide in terms of UX so what exactly is the point?. The "UI niceties" is the whole point of using cursor and somehow, everyone else sucks at it.

You’re missing the point tho. The point of the cli agent is that it’s a building block to put this thing everywhere. Look at CCs GitHub plugin, it’s great

If you're looking for a fully open source, LLM-agnostic alternative to Claude Code and Gemini CLI, check out OpenHands: https://docs.all-hands.dev/usage/how-to/cli-mode

With the recent Expo SDK 53 update that introduced a slew of breaking changes, I've been contemplating switching my app to native. I could perhaps vibe code features on both android and iOS and ship features as fast as crossplatform react native devs.
rhodysurf · 7 months ago
I doubt it. I maintain both RN apps and other ones with both iOS and android versions and if you are not a company and your app does anything more than a todo list your iteration velocity grinds to an absolute halt. RN is just faster and that matters

That’s because Python lacks good open source lsp. That’s true for other open source editors.
rhodysurf · 8 months ago
Yes.. but all that really matters in a zero sum game is that Vscode and cursor have good Python integration and zeds is not good. I live zed otherwise but I have to do Python all day so I don’t use it
