> “This provides a new perspective on how Phoenician culture spread—not through large-scale mass migration, but through a dynamic process of cultural transmission and assimilation.”

> “At each site, people were highly variable in their ancestry, with the largest genetic source being people similar to contemporary people of Sicily and the Aegean, and many people with significant North African associated ancestry as well.”

They say "cultural exchange" but is this a euphemism that includes things like warfare and slavery? Like the way Alexander the Great spread Greek culture?

It seems like the main hypothesis they're ruling out is migration.

Phoenicians were part of many civs. They did lots of trade, and were mercantile by nature, they're not known for their conquering.

I was about to wade in and call out today's youth as pansey-ass-snowflakes.

Then I read: "I like to describe it as some kids are growing up developmentally delayed, today’s 18-year-olds are like 12-year-olds from a decade ago. They have very little tolerance for conflict and discomfort, and COVID just exposed it.” " and I suddenly realized that I was just being pandered to.

I have been homeless in Melbourne too. Rent market there is a bitch to get into. I had usd30k in my Account, but no home as no one wanted to rent out to a single young male.

University was no help either. Got Lucky and met some hosts at a party.

I'm curious about the party story

Caiphas Cane and Eisenhorn would be fantastic.

Folks on reddit kept focusing on Caiphas Cane.

If we put ourselves in Amazon's shoes, it's whichever story would bring them closer to their business goal, my guess is they'll do the Heresy, Terra's invasion, or something else that is action packed to get people hooked, then flesh out other stories if it works out.

It might look a lot like LOTR.

How did we get to there point where this user is cheering for and laughing at the deaths of children?

And he thinks somehow advertising his evil to the rest of the internet is a normal thing to do.

Those irregularities should smooth out over generations if we keep at it.

I'd wager Maps is going to become more real-time, like showing a blob where a current festival is, mapping the trajectory of a scheduled protest, local activities. Like they did with forest fires.

Maybe back in June 2022.

Since then, around 70,000 new Transformer models have been released via HF.

There are several models much larger than YaLM, including BigScience BLOOM 176B and Tsinghua GLM-130B.
