We actually did something like this for non-native English speakers a few months back. Check out https://accentoracle.com (most mind-blowing if you're a non native English speaker)

Swiss-German accent doesn't seem to be on the list, so it guessed mostly Swedish.

It probably won't matter. When I play a "random civ" game with my friends, I always get Vikings. On maps with no oceans.

For real, though, it's really great to see this game continue to live on.

Vikings are a very good archer civ, full tree and the free handcart is a top-tier eco-boost.

A little unfair to compare a country 10x the size - I would imagine its a lot easier to run good public transport over a smaller area. That said, Germany does seem to have underinvested in infrastructure a lot in the Merkel era... hopefully something that is being remedied now. The transport network is still amazing overall by global standards, even if it is frustrating for daily commuters.

Population density: - Germany: 239 people/km^2 - Switzerland: 563 people/km^2

Public funding per citizen per year: - Germany: ~200€ (2013, so 250€ with inflation) https://www.bmuv.de/fileadmin/Daten_BMU/Pools/Forschungsdate... - Switzerland: ~750€ (2024) https://switzerlandtimes.ch/swiss-public-transport-revenues-...

So you have a third of the money, and about half the population density.

curl | sh is actually bad because a completely innocuous script can become dangerous with a network hiccup, e.g.

  rm -rf /path/to/directory
becomes

  rm -rf /path
if the connection accidentally drops half way. Or something less dramatic, but still leaving you in a broken state.

Some people took the “don’t curl | sh” advice as “you have to inspect every line of a shell script installer you download”, which is of course absurd.

We're working on a device to allow seniors to access the digital world with a haptic interface. We support video calls / photo sharing / content / telemedicine / exercises to bridge the generational gap in digital services.

Tried this in the past, indeed hard to do, and, very heavy on cash investment, don't even think about bootstrapping it, crowdfunding might be the only way moving forward unless you somehow received huge investment.

Most important thing is "ecosystem" to me, i.e. the logistics of ICs, PCB factories, upstream and downstream vendors, etc are all in the same place or city, I don't see anywhere in US that provides this yet.

I went to Shenzhen instead, which has everything a hardware startup dreamed of, COVID kind of screwed it up for me though, back to software stuff.

LineageOS requires an unlocked bootloader last time I checked. This is not acceptable for my threat model.
reactormonk · 3 years ago
I installed iode onto my FP3, and I could relock the bootloader.
