AI ethics are like nuclear ethics: the incentive to break them is too powerful without every major player becoming a signatory to some agreement with consequences that have teeth.

If you have the time, check out the show "Pantheon" (it should be on Netflix). It goes into this and how effectively AI ethics goes out the window when the reward for breaking them means nation-dominating power.

It would be hilarious if Zuckerberg spent all this time kissing Trump's ass only for him to not care and the FTC wins against Meta.

I'm sure it was always the plan. Trump never forgives but he wants to humiliate and lure in before he strikes

Heard. The thought of moving to another country is, honestly, scary, like starting over, figuring out how to live and build from from 0 again.

It's not just my partner, but also my kids I'm concerned about. The idea of moving my whole family to another country feels overwhelming, but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make if it means my children can have a chance at a good life, versus what I'm starting to fear they'll experience here.

I appreciate the reminder of patience.

Not saying it is easy, but when I was a teenager I moved across the world because my father needed the job. It sucked in the moment, but looking back it was the best thing that ever happened to me.

Hence the emphasis on cyber and (US) dollar attack vectors. War without the bullets.

Dune's crash message:

> I must not segfault. Uncertainty is the mind-killer. Exceptions are the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will fully express my cases. Execution will pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will unwind the stack along its path. Where the cases are handled there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

There’re no other browsers on iPhone. Every iPhone browser is a reskin of Safari. They’re in theory supposed to allow other browsers in the EU, but AFAIK it has not happened yet.

This tracks.

I think the real value employees get is riding the rocketship in their career.

Early engineers often have first dibs on higher level roles, like CTO or director over people that join late.

Your initial grant might not be great, but being director at such a company is huge

ragnot · 7 months ago
You'll find that outside the startup, the director/vp/cto title doesn't translate. Larger companies will often write you off as being "not experienced" enough which is often code for "you don't look old enough for this position". Unlike engineering and the startup world, big companies want you to look the part not just know the part.

Just want to plug Pantheon as a TV series exploring this idea with excellent storytelling. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pantheon_(TV_series))

Really can't recommend this show enough. As soon as they brought out the dining philosophers problem I was hooked.
