Spaced repetition systems would be the perfect complement to your approach - they're specifically designed to help build that "offline" mental model by systematically moving knowledge from AI-assisted lookup to permanent memory.

Wait...how do you do this in Anki? The randomization part.
qingdao99 · a year ago
Anki supports HTML and JavaScript so technically anything is possible.

I expect people will just ship with their own model where the built-in one isn't sufficient.

When people describe it as a "critical tool" i feel like I'm missing basic information about how people use computers and interact with the world. In what way is it critical for anything? It's still just a toy at this point.

qingdao99 · a year ago
When it's expected to be handling reminders, calendar events, and other device functions for millions of users, it will be considered critical.

Some Gen Z hate audio messages and will not listen to them out of protest, others will send them every day. For most, they're just sprinkled in occasionally in primarily text chats (with their friends - likely not with anyone they're not close with) when there is some reason to send a voice message, e.g. conveying emotion or when typing is difficult.

That's my experience! n≈30 Gen Z.

no VPN, rt.com works just fine in the UK, no issues.

i think they banned the live TV in the EU and UK. and i think they also banned the website in the EU, but apparently it’s not enforced? https://www.rferl.org/amp/russia-rt-sputnik-eu-access-bans-p...

haven’t found anything about rt.com being banned in the UK thou.

Blocked for me! Virgin Media is my ISP. Maybe your ISP is less restrictive/compliant (not sure if the block is actually mandated).

I think you should implement client-side prediction, it feels very laggy.

Maybe those infant memories exist, but they aren't accessible to our adult minds because our understanding of sensory data at the time was so different from our more developed minds?

The data is still there, but it's in a forgotten file format.

qingdao99 · a year ago
This was my guess. I believe I have experienced this as an adult too: I played on a special Minecraft server (an anarchy server) for a year or so, and despite spending so much time on it, I can hardly remember my first few days on there. I have no memory at all of being at the spawn location. I believe it's because of what you described - as I continued to play on the server, my understanding of how it worked changed completely so my initial memories no longer made sense under my new framework.

Hypothetically could one go to Taiwan and buy a pair while on vacation? Asking for a friend…
qingdao99 · 2 years ago
You could probably find a company or a person in Taiwan to ship them to you from Taiwan.

You normally would have to go through two security checks and a standard boarding check to get on that flight. Maybe he got out on the tarmac and somehow just walked to the plane.
qingdao99 · 2 years ago
I've always thought that you could probably just walk off somewhere else once you're on the tarmac.
