pizzetta commented on Launch HN: Sane IT; mobile mechanics; chat teams; Zoom events; spas and beauty    · Posted by u/dang

Hey HN, I’m Colum, a co-founder of Genuity (https://www.gogenuity.com) - a SaaS platform for companies to manage IT: things like keeping track of laptops, managing employee support requests, and buying software at wholesale prices. We are trying to solve two major problems: (1) there is no QuickBooks of IT - most IT solutions are costly, hard-to-use enterprise offerings; and (2) lower volume = higher prices. We believe we can fix (1) with better software and (2) with a marketplace with collective buying power - effectively building a community that grows stronger together.

At my previous company we paid full price for all our software, not realizing that larger companies were able to get 50% discounts. We didn’t have a central system to track everything like our assets, contracts, vendor licenses, and support requests. We even had a seven-figure contract auto-renew for a service we were migrating away from because nobody tracked it. Painful!

We have a unique business model designed to align our interests with customers: we charge $29 per company monthly and a small % on all transactions in our marketplace. This means if we can’t save companies money, we won’t make any.

We’d love to hear your feedback and would be thrilled if you would sign up at https://secure.gogenuity.com/users/sign_up/about_you and try it and let us know what you think!

How can one tell how much is being saved through your service compared to contracting directly with a SaaS (Box, Okta, for example.) keeping in mind, that rarely are list prices what small companies pay to begin with, though admittedly, larger companies can get bigger discounts.

When technical issues come up, does one get support directly from the vendor; if not, how does that work?

80 people? It's a voice, but doesn't seem representative of the overall sentiment

How else is the article going to create discord if they can't take a kernel of truth and extrapolate it to make it seem like something bigger?

Most sources consider animals as separate from humans, so non-animal would mean human. In general poor treatment of animals is considered a lesser offense than one commited against a human, as an illustration of the separation of categories.

Being that we are animals, this trait is not restricted to humans. Animals don't observe much when another type of animal huts a different animal but may come to the defense of its own kind, if related.

This news comes as a joy to me. Also I am unable to see the point of train from Merced to Bakersfield for such an enormous cost. Is it meant for cows ?

All this money can actually go building better roads and other transportation systems into bay area so rent prices can be reduced.

With 77 Billion they could have:

-Built better transit to North Bay.

-Built/Complete Bart circuit around the Bay Area.

-Built HSR to reach exurbs of Gilroy (S), Tracy (E), and Napa (N).

That would have given breathability to the bay area.

Presumably they'd be used for FEMA-type issues; which are generally about imminent hazards.

There is a simple way to deal with shitty users. The problem is that it runs counter to the interests of the organization that hosts them. Require every user on the platform to use an invitation code from another user. They don't have to use their real names, but if they do something fraudulent or awful both the inviter and the invitee get banned.

This is why Dribbble is still nice and most other places turn to garbage.

HN is a rare exception. It's likely because the subject matter requires a certain degree of intelligence, which tends to negatively correlate with trashiness.

Those aren't "shitty users" those are vile and criminal people doing extremely horrible things and sharing them. Most or many of those people should be, where possible, referred to local authorities for judicial processing. FB can very well ID these offenders. It's not like they don't collect enough information to know who they are.

> "Rosatom plans to serially produce such floating nuclear plants, and is exploring various business plans, including retaining ownership of the reactors while selling the electricity they generate."

No sane govt will allow a foreign power to literally be able to shutdown one of their cities on a whim.

I think what the Russian Govt realized is that instead of building nuclear power plants, its going to be more profitable to hold the electric grid of some country hostage, just like the hard profit they make holding Europe hostage with their gas pipelines.

EDIT:

There a lot more issues I have with their idea but that was the one most striking to me.

- How are going to supply electricity during a hurricane ? Most cites are located on the path to some hurricane / cyclone / tornado.

- Coastlines near cities are expensive real estate (not to mention anyone with property there allowing a literal power nuclear plant blocking their view ) - it takes important real estate from ports that are much more useful for docking ships, etc. Its possible to build a separate port far away from the city; but then you have to pay the extra cost of building some extra infrastructure to deal with the ship, at that point its just easier to build your own power plant.

- "Rosatom, in a statement, insisted its plant was 'invulnerable to tsunamis.'"

Really ?? why are they trying to sell dumb electricity when they have the much more valuable technology of invincible ships. How many tsunamis has one of their ships survived exactly ?

Hasn't Gasprom done this [cut supply] in the past but continues to have customers in Europe? If it's cheap enough they will probably have customers.
