Well, their biggest success is pretty much done to death now. NGE has had a series, multiple OVAs, multiple movies, multiple revamp movies... there's really not much else to get out of it unless you want to tell the story of how they got into that mess to begin with, which might be the most interesting part of all of this to its core fanbase given their age. Maybe tell the story of the project up until Shinji's mom dies or something.

There's all kinds of fun things that could be done with the franchise. An isekai where an Otaku gets reborn as Shinji and tries to do it right would be great.

In insurance you expect to come out ahead in the average case.

In gambling you expect to come out behind in the average case.

Therefore insurance is rational and gambling is irrational.

In insurance you expect to come out behind in the average case, unless you're an insurance company.

If you don't need ipv6, best just to turn it off and forget about it.

I remember the books existed as a kid but never ended up reading them. Are they worth the read? I’m in between books at the moment
paul_funyun · 2 years ago
I only read the Book of Atrus and it's worth a read. Can't vouch for any others tho
paul_funyun commented on AI is the reason interviews are harder now   softwaredesign.ing/blog/a... · Posted by u/prakhar897

I wish more companies would have interviewees conduct code reviews. Code reviews as an interview show a number of things you wouldn’t get from a typical interview—what opinions they have, what are the things they call out vs what they don’t waste time on, how they might communicate with another teammate, and more. And if we’re going to a world where AIs do much of the work and we just need to check that they implemented what we intended, those code review skill will still be highly relevant.
paul_funyun · 2 years ago
I don't like code reviews. If need be I might try to bs my way (paychecks come quicker than permission to fire) into a coding job and those would be a showstopper.

Ipv6 is a lot like a bios update - best avoided unless absolutely necessary. Potential mess with no upsides for end users.

I still can not believe that when I right click on a file, the option to rename the file is no longer in the right click menu. The menu that appears contains a couple dozen different options, none of which are to rename the file. Somehow they decided that renaming is so unimportant of an operation that they shoved it into a sub menu, under "More Options", which, when selected, causes a whole new set of actions to appear, one of which is rename. So it's now a multi-step process to get to the option to rename a file.

How on EARTH did people sign off on that? It's such an unbelievable usability issue.

paul_funyun · 2 years ago
You click the filename twice to rename. More efficient than two clicks and a menu perusal.

> Too bad just Internet Archive isn't enough, we also need anarchists like ArchiveTeam to actually mirror all the things, not just the things that agree to be mirrored.

No? This is wrong? The site owner is the person who morally decides whether their site should get mirrored or not.

It's stuff like this that makes me actively cheer forward otherwise-harmful things like Google's web attestation efforts.

paul_funyun · 2 years ago
Disagree. They gave up a legitimate moral claim when they posted whatever on the public facing internet.

Hopefully there are closed source solutions on Linux. Open source is a fine thing, but only when it works.
