If you thought covid fascism was bad why wouldn't you care about this? Was covid fascism so tolerable you'll let the government do more fascism?

My kids’ school added a new weapons scanner as kids walk in the door. It’s powered by “AI.” They trust the AI quite a bit.

However, the AI identifies the school issued Lenovo laptops as weapons. So every kid was flagged. Rather than stopping using such a stupid tool, they just have the kids remove their laptops before going through the scanner.

I expect not smart enough people are buying “AI” products and trusting them to do the things they want them to do, but don’t work.

Sure, Thanks for the feedback. I will implement uuid also. You can consider signup if you want the url to be private. For now I have made guest searches public (As there is no identity involved)

Found this aswell, I would make it more clear that guest searches are public.

Yes, this isn't the right solution. The power needs to be given to the users.

A better solution is more robust device management, with control given to the device owner (read: the parent). The missing legislative piece is mandating that social media companies need to respond differently when the user agent tells them what to send.

I should be able to take my daughter's phone (which I own), set an option somewhere that indicates "this user is a minor," and with every HTTP request it makes it sets e.g. an OMIT_ADULT_CONTENT header. Site owners simply respond differently when they see this.

Another option that allows for better privacy and versatility is the website setting a MIN_USER_AGE header based on IP geolocation.

Elonbruh is FINALLY going to make his late-90's dream of X™ being used for financial interactions. Good for him, I hope he can re-coup his purchase price for the entity formally known as Twitter.

At $44b, he could have offered over a hundred million people $420 EACH to join. Obviously it's waaaay more complicated than that (KYC, actually building the platform, being profitable, etc...), but with that amount of money you could probably make something significantly better and more profitable than twitter.

Reddit's been banning those.

Try using old.reddit.com; for some reason the block doesn't apply.

Instead of spending a bit money to build quality and low maintenance facilities on land, politicians seem to like the idea of using barges as housing. Particularly ridiculous example: https://apnews.com/article/britain-migration-bill-passes-bar... The idea that this is better than building the same thing on the undeveloped land AT THE SAME PORT THEY HAVE THE BOAT is absurd. Water eats everything.

I don't feel the need to do so at this point, but I do feel the moral imperative to spread the alarm on a disastrous industrial process (when precautions are not taken) that many in the maker movement are woefully unaware of, the same way I would if I suddenly became aware of the dangers of asbestos and was on my way to work when I overheard a conversation among hobbyists about spraying asbestos foam around in their bedrooms without much knowledge of it.
notsound · 2 years ago
Raise the alarm with convincing evidence. Nobody is going to do anything if you don't bring evidence to the table (as you say, makers are woefully unaware of this). If you're just trolling, I highly recommend this defcon talk on how to do it better: https://youtube.com/watch?v=vcAHbvTlpKA

One that doesn't create millions of bits of floating microplastics in your home and lungs.

You've mentioned this a couple times. I don't have an opinion on the subject, and a random comment doesn't really tell me anything. It would be good to link some solid studies so people can understand the risks. If you don't have those, maybe reconsider your point.
