Five reasons why COVID herd immunity is probably impossible https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-00728-2

Here’s why herd immunity from Covid is ‘mythical’ with the delta variant https://www.cnbc.com/2021/08/12/herd-immunity-is-mythical-wi...

The developer of the AstraZeneca shot says the Delta variant has made herd immunity impossible because vaccinated people can still transmit the virus https://www.businessinsider.com/delta-variant-made-herd-immu...

That’s talking about herd immunity from vaccines. OP is talking about herd immunity from natural infection. So your links don’t invalidate the point, considering Israel research just proved that natural immunity is 13x more effective against Delta than Pfizer mRNA

> Most of this earth is seeking food and clean water and substance.

You are underestimating the intelligence of people in 3rd world countries.

They might be fighting violently to procure themselves those things, but in their mind there is always the thought of reaching a point when their social status is so high that they won't have to fight violently, but other people in the village would bring food and water to them as a sign of respect.

That's basically the sole reason for becoming a shaman or a sorcer

Geez. I’m underestimating their intelligence? Have you visited the 3rd world? I have. Many times, and food+shelter is THE number one priority.

I personally cashed in >$1m in CD's and bought stocks because of my fear of being left behind because of inflation. Many of my CD's were callable, so I really had no choice.
nomoreplease · 4 years ago
Why did you have 1M in CDs in the first place?

> We don't have a COVID problem, we have a health problem. Has the government been encouraging people to take vitamin D, get fresh air, exercise, and get to a healthy weight? The rhetoric has been sit down and get the jab.

I'm disabled and it's not my fault. I'm a healthy weight, I have a vegetarian diet high in vegetables, I do my rehab exercises every day and see the doctor frequently. And yet my condition is progressing, because that's the nature of it.

My comorbidities aren't a moral failing.

nomoreplease · 4 years ago
I’m sorry and you’re right, it’s not your fault. But that doesn’t disregard what the person you were replying to was saying. The government has not encouraged taking vitamins or exercise. In Colorado they banned people from going hiking in national forests, state parks, etc. Which is ironic given that’s a great way to socially distance

Or in the case of the small cabins pictured, you'd think you could have a one-piece cover made of similar materials, like a giant car cover, packed away and just pull it over the structure before fleeing.

This is common with window protection (wood) in hurricane states

Oh come on. Even before the pandemic your typical anti-vaccine person also wasn’t universally against all vaccines. They usually had some subset that represented their favorite rationale for not getting it: those containing substances they don’t like, those developed with a process that had a fetal cell line somewhere nearby, those given in clusters in early childhood instead of spread later on, etc. Anti-mRNA vaccine sentiment is just another instance of the same thing. Sorry if they feel sad for having that label, but it’s the same behavior.
nomoreplease · 4 years ago
If they aren’t universally against all vaccines, then why is the term “anti-vaxxer” applied in deragatory ways? I was under the impression it meant they were afraid of all

Portions of what you mentioned seem like reasonable concerns to the average layperson

The only true answer is that out there are 8 billion people waking up every day.

And all they do is seeking social relevance, and by doing so they are inadvertedly diluting your own social relevance.

There is not a mechanism which allows you to stop working and freeze your social relevance in place as some sort of videogame checkpoint type manner.

You stop working and your relevance is eroded away...hell you could keep the amount of work constant or even increase it and your relevance would be eroded away if you are in a sector or a country which is not performing well.

The biggest lie that those at the top of the social pyramid have ever managed to pass onto the rest of us is that "it ain't a zero sum game"

Well, matter of fact it is.

> 8 billion people waking up every day. And all they do is seeking social relevance,

No they don’t. Most of this earth is seeking food and clean water and substance. You’re lucky enough to have that and seek your social relevance

Capitalism begets grifters as a matter of necessity.

This arena might be reserved for compulsive liars and psychopaths were we not compelled by society to make ends meet regardless of whether or not the ends ethically justify the means.

In this society, bullshitting is built-in at every level to some degree and being savvy in it can be the difference between subsisting and not.

> Capitalism begets grifters as a matter of necessity.

While I don’t disagree, I expect there’s a substantially equivalent number of grifters under socialism as well
