I thought allowing dissent was what made the Free West different from authoritarian countries.

This is what the western owners of the narratives want everybody to believe. In reality, the west is much more repressive toward citizens that disagree with the narrative and manifest it publicly. The European Commission, which in practices rules over the EU, is a completely unelected body. Still, Europeans think they live in a free country. Just like the Americas think they live in the greatest country on the planet. Yet, many run away from it as soon as the remote work allows them to. Again, just like Putin said, the West is an empire of lies.

I know everyone complains about the US being the world police, but they actively do good stuff. They do break things too.
nevermindiguess · 3 years ago
Well, they did go after a foreign company. Probably a competitor of a US company. Do they enforce the same way against US companies? Perhaps it’s just a tool to beat foreign competition. Eg the case being built against TikTok. Perhaps the EU should investigate the same US companies. But I think the European Commission is in the pockets of Washington.

Yes, like much of IA's content it is. If the copyright holders object they can DMCA claim it.

You criminal. You knowingly support copyright infringement. You represent what is wrong with the world. I hope they put your dumb face on toilet paper in China and force you to go around file DMCA claims to take it down.

"Creates a sound as loud as a car door closing" -> I assume this means at ground level? I can't imagine even the propulsion being that quiet let alone the sonic boom.
nevermindiguess · 3 years ago
It’s nice when they put it like that. Now imagine you trying to relax or concentrate in your home and hearing a “car door closing”, every minute, regularly, all day. And if in the end it sounds more like the car’s tire blowing up - well… “we are looking at ways to resolve the issue”, “we are aware of the issue and working on it”, “you are the only one complaining”, “it looks you may be too sensitive to noise”, and so on. Who cares in the end. It’s just people.

That is true. But now China is getting expensive and the population is getting older fast and the Chinese leadership is getting less predicable. Mexico meanwhile is much younger and labor cost is lower than China. Its a neighboring country and part of a free trade agreement. Canada and Mexico now at par with China in their total trade with US. The threat of future pandemic and global conflicts and their impact on supply chains has made companies more cautious. Its of just offshoring, its instead onshoring, nearshoring or friendshoring. A lot of the stuff onshoring will be higher value or those of national security or highly automatable.

Doesn’t matter. It’s a cultural thing. Mexico can get as young as they like. Won’t matter. Look at the work culture in China vs Mexico. That’s where all the answers lie.

No, there would be war and special ops assasinating people if those americans did not go to iran willingly to begin with. I never understand why this moral indignation by some people about US foreign policy never accounts for military might and it's role in deciding these things. Every country uses it's might to protect its people and interests, that isn't a moral thing, it's a survival thing.

Saudi kidnapped, tortured and murdered an american journalist and they got away with it because that was in the interest of the US. Nation states are not instruments of justice, they exist because they are strong enough. All those people in Guantanamo did not belong to a country who could keep them safe and secure.

Exactly my point about Ukraine. I don’t understand the moral indignation with the attack. Just like you are saying. Russia is big enough to get away with it and so does it. Agree?

> The person who’s passsing the money down already paid tax on the money

Why should I pay sales tax? I already paid tax on the money as income tax.

Why should I pay income tax on that money? That money was already taxed through payroll taxes before the employer paid me.

Why should the employer pay payroll taxes on that money? They already paid income taxes on it.

Why should companies pay income taxes on that money? They already paid sales taxes.

You don't pay taxes on literally the serial numbers of the notes being moved, you usually pay taxes when those monies move between entities.

One of the best comments I have ever read. You truly put this into perspective. Thank you.

This is a very retail oriented view of the world. For the big players it’s trivial to move stock any time of day, there are various methods, they aren’t sitting around waiting for financial markets to open.
nevermindiguess · 3 years ago
Would you care to give some examples? Anything after hours must be OTC, but traders won’t be on the floor on Saturday and Sunday. I know. I was there. So, who’s going to trade during the weekend? Trades also have to be reported within a certain time. I’m not sure about weekend reporting. It’s a genuine question. Your comments seems more a hearsay than actual experience.
nevermindiguess commented on My friends who cheated in interviews are getting promoted (2022)   teamblind.com/post/My-fri... · Posted by u/luu
mattgibson · 3 years ago
TBF I don't think this is bad. The "cheating" involved seems a closer match to the actual real world conditions of the doing the job than the artificial "no internet allowed" assessment. If the candidates can get stuff done but need the internet as a reference, that's still getting stuff done. Not surprising that they are now getting promoted given they can not only get stuff done, but were resourceful enough to find a method to "cheat" and also pull it off successfully whilst being monitored.
nevermindiguess · 3 years ago
The goal of interviews and assignments is not to achieve an outcome but to assess someone’s abilities. Henceforth, cheating cannot be justified.
