A fresh PWA to log / improve your coffee brewing process. We use it to see what we are all drinking, find new coffees, explore new cafes, and understand what we like / don’t like.

It’s primarily used by our group of friends, so if you see a rough edge somewhere please reach out!

It's worth researching the inevitable consequences of price controls, it's a predictable outcome that's been tested many times.

Price controls are Hobson's choice: Would you prefer expensive bread, or no bread?

michaelje · a year ago
Every other country appears to have the “bread” at a reasonable price. Ironically, it’s the US which has the same bread for 100x the cost.

Yes, it is. And 20-30 years ago it was saver than, say, 50 years ago. Like in medcine, people don't always see those incrementle improvements over time.

Not sure medicine is the best example given the same profit seeking culture is driving decisions where care takes a back seat

>> critics argue that it reduces the supply of rental apartments and creates housing shortages

I don’t follow the logic. It doesn’t destroy the property or take it out of supply, it just means someone might not purchase it specifically to rent it out. Which in turn means less demand buying houses overall, which means more opportunities for people to buy (if they want?)

For $25M, you'd think they could provide a decent sales pitch, and a few more photos.

I assume the people in the market for an a380 already know what it looks like

Why would they want the population to grow so large?

Can’t be bothered to watch the whole video at work so I apologize if this is in TFV.

If you can’t find one technically minded person who believes enough in your vision to drop everything and help you make it, that is not a good sign for your vision.

Or a technical audience is not the market

>I don’t see as many exploited illegal immigrants in Canada.

There is not a large land border with Mexico in Canada, but Canadians are happy enough to exploit what they call temporary foreign workers who do jobs they don't want to do and have rights which fall short of a citizens on paper and in practice.

This difference seems less due to Canada's superior nature than it seems due to Canada being surrounded by oceans on three sides and by a wealthier country on the fourth side. In fact I think Canadians would do well to keep in mind that they don't face the same issues that other countries do before passing judgement on immigration issues. Almost all immigrants to Canada are immigrants Canada explicitly welcomed to the country who met every qualification.

Wrt who is happy to exploit TFWs: is it Canadians, or the Canadian government at the request of Canadian big business?

Who stands to gain? Without TFWs the minimum wage (or the amount actually paid for workers) would have to rise - supply and demand.

The CBC is little more than crass government propaganda at this point. Canada in general should be viewed as a cautionary tale for anyone who thinks more government intervention in our lives, is a good thing.
michaelje · 2 years ago
Or maybe the issue is regulatory capture of government, not government itself?

‘Government intervention’ isn’t the same as a government who works to support the needs of citizens.
