One option is to start a small business to provide a product or service. It is permissionless so it won't matter if you have a degree or not. You can also leverage resources such as capital and human talent later so that you don't need to worry too much about being smarter than average. Most rich people or business owner aren't smarter than average. You do need to be relentlessly resourceful though as written by PG.

Alternatively, it is never too late a go back to school and get a degree. Bootcamps may also work. Try to build (open source projects) or generate content (like teaching people to code in youtube)

another reason to think that survey is useless as how you design your questions will affect the prompted answers from real people similar to the prompted answers from LLM.

Creator of Shoelace [0] here. As someone who’s built multiple design systems and component libraries, I assure you that unstyled (or “headless”) components are often much more time consuming and painful to adopt than those with good default styles.

That said, I commonly find that most folks don’t want unstyled components because it’s quite a bit of work to style every single state of every single component. Most people just won’t do it or, if they try, they don’t do it right and they don’t do it completely.

What many folks do want are components that have simple, generic styles you can quickly tweak to match your site/app using a skill you already know: CSS. (This is something you can do with Shoelace’s 50+ web components already, but we’re working to make it even easier with additional CSS custom properties.)

It is very true. Most of us who are not designers just want a very good looking default style. We can change if we want to later. It is a pain that react doesn't come with default style.
maxwin commented on Ask HN: Whatever happened to the “coming wave” of delivery drones?    · Posted by u/cgb223

Long story short, It's the FAA's fault. Initially they said, "no, you can't do that" because there are no regulations for that. With pressure from companies, the FAA took years to create the rules to make drone deliveries legal. Finally there is some regulatory framework.

Drones have to be specifically designed and manufactured to pass the FAA's certification program. We've all seen capable drones from Amazon's marketing, but does it please the FAA? A drone can't do the job until the FAA signs off on that make/model. It's not easy to do and requires developing a craft with all sorts of safety features.

Companies are making progress, and I think the most insightful videos to watch on the topic come from Zipline. They're already operating in Rwanda with support from their government. They have a streamlined service and make 100s of deliveries per day.

in addition to car accidents, in the future , you will have one more way to die prematurely : drone accidents

I think the better way is to come out with a lot of interesting real world scenarios that require calculus or other math. Math doesn't get created out of a vacuum. It was created for a reason. I think if we can avoid diving into abstractions too quickly and focus on specific real world problems and lead the kids step by step to the solutions , that would be more interesting.

What are all the researchers in universities doing ? Couldn't they improve these models (they do have big brains after all) with tax payer's money and put the results under some cool open source license...
maxwin · 2 years ago
they produce papers that contain (sometimes) useful ideas. They don't produce code (other than proof of concept) and they certainly can't afford to train a large model

Another alternative is to reach out to small NGOs and ask what you can do for them to help them digitalize their process. You would likely build something boring like a CRUD app for them but if it solves their pain points, it is worth your time.

This is a good thing , yes? The last thing I want is for social networks to be like fashion that you need to use a new social network every 6 months
