Social media is bad for you. Though I'm not sure that social media enjoyed a "social media is good for you" phase. There are certainly studies I'm sure that are out there, but the general consensus seems to be negative.

Oh, at least here in Brazil, people still find it strange if you say you don't have an Instagram account. There's this idea of being a bit weird for not following this trend.

So did you let this go without protest? Why not escalate it if it was clearly so unreasonable?

Sounds like there was more nuance to the story.

Pinegrow Web Editor [0] (I’m the author) gets a lot of ex-Dreamweaver users who are looking for a more modern alternative.

There must be a successor, right?
marc_io · 10 months ago
There's an app called Wappler that was developed by the same folks from DMXzone, which was quite well-known for its Dreamweaver add-ons at the time. It's the closer you will find of a direct successor.

> What could be more important in life than how you make people feel?

Food, water, shelter, survival, comfort, security.

Is this a joke?

Sometimes, meaning (which is heavily connected to the way people feel) is all that makes people survive. Ask Viktor Frankl.

> obvious why a country would not want their biggest media providers to be foreign-owned.

And yet many countries have no objection with letting their citizens use US FAANG services?

Twitter/X had a hard time in Brazil recently and was temporarily banned. Meta is now feeling more intense pushback from Brazil's judiciary power.

I would love to do a one click transfer to a static site but it’s not easy. I’ve only seen Astro Wordpress kits but paid

Generate a static site from WordPress itself with the Simply Static plugin.

There are CMSes that work with static site generators. Static site generators do not imply that the input is markdown, though this is often the usecase. Any CMS that is decoupled from presentation, in fact, could be used for static site generation. Just read the structure and generate an appropriate HTML tree statically. Here are some CMSes with specific thought given to this use:

https://decapcms.org/

https://getkirby.com/

https://tina.io/

https://statamic.com/

ect ect

Publii is another one with static generation capabilities (https://getpublii.com)

> Weird as it might be, it's not a great mystery why that is: it's easier to spin up a Wordpress blog than it is to figure out by yourself all the intermediate steps

Or you could just use publii, an office suite of your choice, or type bad html and css by hand, then pass raw files on very cheap hosting providers, enjoying a clunky, and sometimes ugly, "website".

The industry for this use-case works on looks and discoverability: the dichotomy of the WP big bloated piece of crap vs static clown generators stands upon having a pretty website which is also functional for Google. Any other alternative (like the builders or the directories) works the same but they also forfeit property of the site from client. It's just because these solutions are pretty for cheap, it's fast fashion.

WordPress folks are working to enable static generation using WordPress Playground. It will work pretty much like Publii does today.
