Maybe someone can enlighten me. I first heard about this problem 10 years ago. I'm sure it's been known far longer.

Is there some extremely difficult algorithmic problem preventing these systems from working on people with darker skin?

I had presumed it was a long corrected oversight but it still appears to be a problem.

Even photographic cameras have difficulty with exposure for dark skin. This is a problem as old as photography.

>Women have an expectation to express themselves and their personality.

Personality is expressed through choice of cut, material, and color of cloth?

Don't be dense. Whether you admit it or not, most people judge others based on appearance.

You are basically just spamming your site on HN: 20 submissions in 9 months.

You're getting good feedback because it's an intelligent community, but IMO your behavior is objectionable.

20 posts in 9 months is not much at all.

This method, while effective, is likely to be a significant frustration for the woman in this situation, given that cyclical high fertility usually coincides with high sex drive.
magic_beans · 5 years ago
On fertile days you use a condom. Simple as that.

Due to their youth and inexperience, we generally try to shield teenagers from the most serious consequences of their actions. Unfortunately, we can't do this with the biological consequences of pregnancy. That's why it's natural to put more effort into preventing daughters from having sex.
magic_beans · 5 years ago
Instead of trying to prevent daughters from having sex, parents need to educate their daughters on fertility cycles.

Women are only fertile for a limited amount of time during each cycle. Sympto-thermal fertility tracking methods, as described in the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler, empower women to understand exactly when in their cycles they are fertile.

Understanding your personal cycle of fertility means you can accurately predict your period, understand precisely when you have ovulated, know when you are fertile and infertile in your cycle, and avoid the side effects of hormonal birth control.

I have personally used sympto-thermal fertility tracking as my exclusive method of birth control within a relationship for 2 years.

Very anectdotal, but the three Japanese persons I know have told me that people in Japan are generally negative towards holding an Olympics and think it's just a waste of resources.

I would guess every citizen of a hosting country has felt similarly.

I’ve watched every one of Cuomo’s press conferences. He message is always clear - that we are trying to not overwhelm the health system.

He doesn’t say “flatten the curve” because he believes words matter and tries to communicate to avoid panic (Hence his refusal to call “Stay Indoors” as “Shelter in Place”)

But the medical side of the state government - along with their action - has been consistently flatten the curve.

No one but the highly delusional believes we can roll back community spread.

I've been blown away by Cuomo's steady hand and calm reassurance in this time. While De Blasio has flip-flopped from apathy to utter panic, Cuomo has remained fairly consistent. I appreciate his insistence on preventing panic by using specific language.

Being a doctor is always valuable, though I'm not sure it's that easy to retrain into one...

More importantly, knowing how to live frugally is valuable in and of itself, assuming we do end up with a once-in-a-century-type depression.

Not impossible, according to some (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=22655670) but then forecasting is very difficult, especially when it involves the future.

Being a doctor involves at least 4 years, plus an extra 3-4 for residency — and that's assuming you have met the pre-med requirements.

There are several other health care options that are much quicker to learn. Such as nursing, physician's assisting, lab work. Etc.
