Drudge Report sold out to the deep state, they didn't cover hardly any of the election integrity news at all (among other editorial decisions). The rumor is Matt Drudge doesn't even own it anymore. If you still get your "conservative" news from there I suggest switching to Rantingly.

Just because Matt Drudge stopped agreeing with Donald Trump doesn't mean he "sold out to the deep state". Drudge is just as conservative as he ever was. Many conservatives just pulled a hard shift in a different direction.

94% attrition rate for long haul truckers? That is insane.

They are probably payed way too little for so many nights away. If they made more they could work less and still have a normal life.

learc83 · 3 years ago
I worked for a start up that sourced truck drivers. One of the major factors is that sign on bonuses tend to be bigger than any kind of retention pay. So the 94% turnover is misleading. Truckers are generally leaving for a sign on bonus at a new company. They aren’t leaving the industry at that rate.

That seems to be the general consensus. I don't see the difference, but I will abide by the decision of the council.
learc83 · 3 years ago
The difference is that when you press enter I get an alert. Then you take 30 seconds or 2 minutes (or more) to think through and type out your question. Now I just have to sit there waiting for your question.

It doesn't bother me in the slightest - it honestly feels a bit more polite than just barreling in with a question. I was sort of surprised when I found out just how passionately it bothers the people it does bother, though, so I've made a conscious effort to stop doing it.
learc83 · 3 years ago
You can say hi + ask a question in the same message. So I don’t really see how:

Hi. <Press enter> <Ask Question>

Is any more polite than:

Hi. <Ask Question>

It'd be nice to have a source for that claim other from a Florida Senator. I don't think he got that information from his Intelligence Committee seat.
learc83 · 3 years ago
He’s the vice chairman of the intelligence committee. He is one of 4 members of congress who have much more access to intelligence.

>especially against those that China deemed to be problematic to them.

I don’t see how this is any different than what the US has already done. The US has now cut off Iran and Russia from SWIFT in political moves. Any nation state is likely already doing the calculus.

learc83 · 3 years ago
The difference is China would likely cut off banks and countries who “hurt the feelings of the Chinese people”, i.e., refer to Taiwan as a country, or refuse to recognize the 9-dash line, or comment on their human rights abuses.

A lot of people also miss that in ECS, "System" is part of the "noun triple" and not a description of the first two nouns.

Put another way, there's a difference between an "Entity Component" architecture and an "Entity Component System" architecture. A lot of people read ECS as "A system made of entities and components" when it's actually "An architecture composed of Entities, Components, and the Systems that act on them".

learc83 · 3 years ago
That's a nice succinct way of putting it!

I'm not 100% sure what I think about Pikuma. Gustavo is a good teacher, his methods are fairly well explained and easy to understand, but sometimes he doesn't seem to know what he's talking about.

I took his first ECS game engine course, and it was good for a few hours, but halfway through the course it was clear he hadn't really understood what ECS is and was implementing his understanding of it.

I took his updated course which he'd overhauled and it seems he now properly understands ECS and the course was much better.

learc83 · 3 years ago
Misunderstanding ECS is very common. Mostly because the name includes entity and component, so many people think that any architecture where you have an entity container with behavior defined in components is an ECS.

Does everyone at your company with the same title create the same value? Plenty of people at my office with the same title create double or triple the value.
learc83 · 3 years ago
Yes those discrepancies exist. But they are almost always a result of imperfect information at hiring. No one hired 2 people into the same role assuming that one would only be half as productive as the average and one would be 2x more productive. Had they known that going in they would have hired them into different positions or at least different levels within the same position.

And typically those high performers either get promoted or leave to find higher paying jobs.

Because if you can get a $150k candidate, they'll work on X and Z, but a $100k candidate may only work on X and Y or maybe just only X. Y and Z are nice to have, but only X is worth hiring for; whichever candidate gets through first gets the position.
sarchertech · 3 years ago
So post 2 positions. If Z is worth 50% more to you, then it's clearly a different position, even if the responsibilities are a superset of the lower position. Most companies have levels for exactly this reason.

It's not hard to post 2 positions, and it prevents issues like many people have been bringing up with candidates having the wrong expectations.
