One of the coolest apps I miss after switching to Linux. I still boot my Mac to create diagrams with it every now and then.

I tried plain-text task management too since I use plain-text formats for various things in my life anyway, but I could not get it working as good as a to-do app. My final outcomes are: - capturing tasks/todos on the go is a huge problem with plain-text. - never syncs properly. - proprietary apps (unfortunately) works out of the box and without a hassle or personal infrastructure concerns. - being able to capture using a web browser makes things very easy because sometimes you are not even allowed to install some kind of syncing solution to company PCs.

Maybe I'm dumb but another thing I never understand is how the hell you think org-mode is the best way to do this? An org document is one of the worst things I have seen in my life in terms of readability. How do you read this and properly interact with that mess? I am really eager to understand...

idk, hardware engineering (whether electrical, mechanical, civil, aerospace, etc) is just as lucrative and IMO more interesting, since physics isn't an invention of the human mind like software is, and mistakes go boom instead of segfault.
kenanfyi · 18 days ago
As an hardware engineer, I can't say if it's more interesting or not, but definitely a different mindset and tempo you have during development. Things are not running in a sandboxed environment where you can iterate theoretically endless times.

Looks good, but it‘s fascinating the term engineering nowadays almost only boils down to software(also mostly web) and AI, although it is way more than that.

My rule of thumb for cocktails is - they were created to mask the flavors of shitty base liquors so this is what should be used. The best old fashioned comes from jim beam white label. Unless you use some really strong medicinal smoked whiskeys you probably won't be able to pick up much of the delicate flavors from the good stuff with so much syrup and bitters in it. and if you want to add complexity - just make a more complex syrup.

Wasn‘t it Woodford Reserve? I think I never used Jim Beam for an old-fashioned.

I’ve been using it for more than a year and it’s already a must for me to install whenever I spin up a new server. Great piece of software!

Sorry, what? Is it just my phrasing or my rant on VC-backed entities pushing things to gain advantage?

I have seen Dan's "2 computers" talk and read some of his recent posts trying to explore RSC and their benefits.

Dan is one of the best explainers in React ecosystem but IMO if one has to work this hard to sell/explain a tech there's 2 possibilities 1/ there is no real need of tech 2/ it's a flawed abstraction

#2 seems somewhat true because most frontend devs I know still don't "get" RSC.

Vercel has been aggressively pushing this on users and most of the adoption of RSC is due to Nextjs emerging as the default React framework. Even among Nextjs users most devs don't really seem to understand the boundaries of server components and are cargo culting

That coupled with fact that React wouldn't even merge the PR that mentions Vite as a way to create React apps makes me wonder if the whole push for RSC is for really meant for users/devs or just as a way for vendors to push their hosting platforms. If you could just ship an SPA from S3 fronted with a CDN clearly that's not great for Vercels and Netflifys of the world.

In hindsight Vercel just hiring a lot of OG React team members was a way to control the future of React and not just a talent play

I find your analysis very good and agree on why companies like Vercel are pushing hard on RSC.

I'm convinced that Christianity is true, so I don't feel compelled to keep exploring other belief systems. My conviction comes from the intellectual evidence, the witness of other Christians, and the fruits of my own faith life as a Christian. As I mentioned in my previous comment, I believe that ultimately the fruits of a lived faith provides the strongest assurance.
kenanfyi · 3 months ago
So basically you are confirming your own belief system using, well, your own and choices of other people which believe in the same thing. That sounds a little bit biased, isn‘t it?

Wait a minute… This has even a name in logical fallacies: CONFIRMATION BIAS.

Are you confused about Astro? It follows the same model.
kenanfyi · 4 months ago
Good that you say that. I believe the model is more important here than the implementation detail, framework or language of choice.

Plus, I think Astro wins over Next in terms of documentation and the general developer experience.

Next has the bad vibes, unfortunately because of all Vercel thing. At least for me. I believe if Next would position itself somewhere like Astro, people would be more open to learn and dig it. I don‘t exactly know if it‘s 100% true, but I feel like if I invest my time in Next, I will be locked-in by the Vercel world of things. And no one likes that.
