If Adobe ported their apps to Linux (which I can't imagine would even be that hard, as they are already using their own toolkit) I would not only switch but never look back; and if Adobe released their own distribution of Linux and went all-in on some first-party toolkit (so, no Gnome/KDE) I think they might accidentally win a massive segment of the desktop OS market.

Apple and Microsoft would simply never allow that to happen. End of story. The Open Source "community" is hell-bent on finding technical solutions for political problems, and this is the best among countless examples of why it's a hopeless mission from the outset.

Great solution if you're looking to spend hours installing CS6 built for a 1280x720 display, or CS18 (high DPI support) with very buggy operation and constant crashes. I've been there, done that.

This is fascinating. Thanks for sharing!

I wonder if this has implications about the sense of agency people from different backgrounds feel (or not) in their lives.

In a capitalist society, class is the predominant relationship one has with their society.

I know this is pretty obvious and may not entirely answer your question, but many people find it very difficult to swallow this reality these days and I think it's worth reminding.

That is not true, the Arab countries decided to wage war in Israel after the UN proposed the two state solution. Herzl and many other founding figures in Zionism called for peace and integration in the Middle East. Jewish people thought because they had no choice. Meanwhile in Europe Jews were massacred or if they were lucky bullied and harassed.

This is almost entirely just plain false.

This guide I linked is literally how to do that if and how you are able to, especially when you do not know where to start. Those movements start small, with a few people organising and snowballing. This is a guide on starting that process, not finishing. We need to show people how to begin if we want mass action, and the groundwork for strong movements is extremely important as it is inherently a bottom-up approach to societal change.
jdksmdbtbdnmsm · 2 years ago
Historically mere "movements" don't accomplish anything. You need actual strategy. Not just attention wrangling. The fact that you haven't shared a strategy shows me you're ineffective at anything except wasting peoples' time.

There are lots of business ventures that are illegal or heavily regulated.

I think this is a new business that was made possible by technology, but in its current state, it undermines the social fabric of society

> In 2018, 56.4% of new recruits were categorized as white. In 2023, that number had fallen to 44%. During that same five-year period, Black recruits have gone from 20% to 24% of the pool, and Hispanic recruits have risen from 17% to 24%, with both groups seeing largely flat recruiting totals but increasing as a percentage of incoming soldiers as white recruiting has fallen.
jdksmdbtbdnmsm · 2 years ago
The use of proportions rather than actual totals means the number of recruits could have dropped by that same 12.4% in every category, in which case the focus on race is completely meaningless.

Hope they haven’t forgotten about Project 100,000 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_100,000

Another article is more explicit about exactly who isn’t joining the military anymore. https://www.military.com/daily-news/2024/01/10/army-sees-sha...

>Another article is more explicit about exactly who isn’t joining the military anymore.

The article doesn't confirm whether the total of any other groups is dropping, but it can be inferred from the numbers given that recruiting is very low across the board. It's worth having a racial remark in the title for clicks alone.
