@dang .... do these comments seem organic to you? old accounts with almost zero karma going out of their way to use the same verbiage to compliment waymo 18 minutes after an article gets posted? .... dead internet at work.

Such a great response to this article. Scathing but enjoyable to watch. Angela is a treasure.

> Are people here objecting to Gen AI being used to take their jobs?

Yes, even if they don't say it. The other objections largely come from the need to sound more legitimate.

jdhendrickson · 3 months ago
Let me get this straight. You think Rob Pike, is worried about his job being taken? Do you know who he is?

the potential future of the AT protocol is the main idea i thought made it differentiate itself... also twitter locking users out if they don't have an account, and bluesky not doing so... but i guess thats no longer true?

I just don't understand that choice for either platform, is the intent not, biggest reach possible? locking potential viewers out is such a direct contradiction of that.

edit: seems its user choice to force login to view a post, which changes my mind significantly on if its a bad platform decision.

It's a setting on BlueSky, that the user can enable for their own account, and for people of prominence who don't feel like dealing with drive by trolls all day, I think it's very reasonable. One is a money grab, and the other is giving power to the user.

Came hear and read “GitHub isn’t a good guy anymore” (not the first time, and seems to be increasing in frequency).

It’s like sourceforge all over again. History rhymes with itself, and enshitification has been added to dictionaries for a good reason.

As a once upon a time avid slashdotter, makes me wonder if some day, HN will go the same route.

I don't see this site as being the spiritual successor to /. at all, the audience is much more money focused and much less software focused. I miss /. as a low 5 digit user there.

To be clear, I’m not knocking it; I also like to reuse old computers. But it’s incongruous with replacing GitHub, rather that being a “weirdo hobbyist” version of GitHub.

And yet the amount of work time I've missed out on from github being down is slightly concerning in retrospect. I imagine the smaller scale of codeberg will actually lead to more uptime despite chaos monkey's best efforts.

Yeah, same rationale that Elon shared for renaming Twitter to X, so for good or evil you have that trillionaire mindset pinned down.

I think for B.S. to stand up in print it needs to be fairly well crafted.

I think the modern era has made throw away B.S. far more effective.

I don't think the total ratio of B.S. has actually changed all that much.

If you are in the USA and don't believe the ratio of bullshit to reality has changed, I would like to know what news sources you are using.

If you select "All data" for their user count, you'll notice a sharp shift in the gradient of the user count about a year ago. Any idea what would cause this?

Googles seemingly inexorable slide into becoming unusable seems to have picked up speed around then.

This chair is made from pressure treated wood. Technically speaking, it is safe to sit on, but personally I'd like to avoid those chemicals against my skin if I could. Regular lumber probably would be preferable, especially when it would take $10 and 20 minutes to replace it after 5 years when it has rotted (or you could spring for redwood or cedar for an extra $10 and double or triple the life of your chair).
jdhendrickson · 9 months ago
Most pressure treated lumber eschews the old arsenic method. Most only have copper and an anti fungal (Tebuconazole) in it. Perfectly safe for an outdoor chair.
