Author seems to be very idealistic, and I appreciate that he cares about the quality of the content he provides for free. Personal experience however shows me that when I look at a recipe site I will first have to skip through the entire backstory to the recipe and then try to parse it inbetween annoying ads in a bloated wordpress page. I can't blame anyone who prefers to simply prompt a chatbot for exactly what hes looking for.

Would suggest you or anyone else watch Internet Shaquille's short video on "Why Are Recipes Written Like That?"[1]. It addresses your sentiment in a rather thoughtful way.

> This leads the platform to publish dodgy stories from the right, with the appearance that they are just as valid as high-fact reporting from the left or the center.

Sadly, this is downstream of mainstream news itself. I think if Ground News attempted to truly solve this problem, the right would condemn Ground News as "fake news" or controlled by Soros like they do Wikipedia.

I'm looking to be skeptical of Ground News, because almost all YouTube sponsors are scams, and we remember Honey was recently exposed as a scam, but this isn't enough to convince me.

To be a bit pedantic, I think that YouTube sponsors aren't necessarily scams, but are definitely not generally good products or deals. It's a spectrum.

Certainly both, but in your question, I'm suspecting your unaware of how much of this music you're familiar with it since it lives rent-free in the general zeitgeist. For example, I suspect you'd recognize Satie's work Gymnopedie no. 1[1] and perhaps putting a name to it will give you some appreciation for why his work is valued

Talk about living rent free…the number of modern songs which are (generally obliviously) derivative of Pachelbel's Canon in D is mind boggling, which itself was surely built upon even earlier, similar chord progressions.

Time does exist though, at least directionally, because of entropy, no?

Trey The Explainer on YouTube has a great video about “the rarest signature”, which is more like a deep dive on to what exactly is a signature and autograph (and…why)

If you've got 12 minutes to spare, I highly recommend this video about Onfim by Trey the Explainer. [https://youtu.be/H_nT6EFUZmI?si=RcFJeGjzcjkoVlh8]

But only if you wish to experience sonder.

Great read on how ILM made the shots. As a crew member on the USS Salt Lake City (SSN-716), we took many of the cast and crew out to sea for 24 hours before they made the movie to get a feel for what sub-life was like before they made the movie. All the cast and crew were great, and I think it made the movie better.

Actor Scott Glenn, who plays the Captain of Dallas, modeled his character after our Captain, Tom Fargo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rjO_VrESNo

It is a great movie!

Terrific character. I just love the competency and leadership. Hopefully your Cpt. Fargo was just as good.

My favorite exchange from the movie is when Jonesy brings his report to the captain. He's aware of how crazy this theory sounds, especially when his very serious and hard-to-read captain rephrases it back to him. Jonesy starts getting nervous and fumbling and Mancuso cuts him off -- "Relax, Jonesy. You sold me." Not quite sure why that simple line hits so hard.

> Lidden pleaded guilty to offences under Australia's nuclear non-proliferation act that carry a possible 10-year jail sentence.

The bureaucratic apparatus, especially dealing with law enforcement always concentrates people who enjoy punishing others. Is Australia particularly bad about it perhaps? It seems they get some kind of sadistic enjoyment out of it. It's scary that everyone in the chain here: judge Leonie Flannery, Australian Border Force officials, police, even his employer just had a grand 'ol time punishing this guy. Everyone could have stopped, realizing it's obvious what's happening, give him a warning have him turn in this sample.

And the best part for them, there is no repercussion for it. Everyone can turn around and publicly proclaim they just "did their job".

The best is when they use flimsy arguments about needing to "make an example" or "discourage this behavior" or "create a deterrent", as if people in these situations are even aware they're doing anything wrong.

For anyone particularly taken by the “sonder” described there at the beginning, I can’t recommend highly enough the video about Onfim by Trey The Explainer on YT. If you don’t already know what it’s about, I won’t spoil it. I highly doubt you’ll find it a waste of 12 minutes.
