Does anyone know of any studies that look at rates of cigarette smoking, or activation of indoor smoking bans with respect to the data on mental illness? Most of the west banned indoor smoking around 2006-2008, roughly around when smartphone usage started to explode. AFAIK you can still smoke indoors in China--do they show the same trends? What about Nevada? Did any jurisdictions ban indoor smoking a few years before or after the rest of the west and show a graph shifted on the x axis?

This isn't a joke post--cigarette smoking promotes social bonding and nicotine is a mood stabilizer. It's irresponsible to not consider the effects of smoking bans on mental health.

Of course there are many health and aesthetic downsides to cigarette smoking but we should look at the data.

Not even the only McDonald's branded game of the era! I played MC Kids growing up on NEWS and it also was a dramatically better game than it had any right to be. Not quite the same storied history but still recommend playing if you're looking for some hidden NES gems.

The guy who programmed MC Kids did a writeup on the game's engineering that serves as a wonderful introduction to programming for the NES.

Sounds like you are very new to this extremely polarizing discussion.

This is the direct result of the provision that downgraded thefts under $1000 to a misdemeanor charge. Cops can’t be bothered to deal with most store thefts because in most cases arrests are not going to go anywhere.

Plus store security is not allowed to actively interact with thieves, which means they come in, take whatever they want and just walk out.

Lots of posts on /r/bayarea/ if you are curious.

Why aren't CVS, who have more downtown SF locations than Walgreens, facing similar pressures?

There's a bus station across from my studio / coworking space. I can see people waiting for the bus and doing either: 1) staring into the void 2) looking at their watches 3) desperately glancing in the direction where the bus is coming from.

I figured that it'd be nice to let people know when the bus is supposed to be there. So, I installed a 28" display on a monitor stand, installed the stand on my window frame, turned the monitor to face the bus station, and show the up-to-date arrival time in a very big font (the buses have GPS; the Pi gets the real time info from the local transit authority).

This is in Montreal. Some info here [0]. And a little video [1].
