BS. Everyone is trying to make interesting designs - See Nothing and Teenage Engineering as just two examples.

Slack is still a thing?

At this rate it's cheaper to pay a full time DevOps team to run several Matrix servers so you have high availability.

I tried to like Matrix but the UX was just so bad! Switched to Mattermost and I couldn't be happier. Everything that I liked about Slack.

Zulip is much better alternative due it it's threaded nature and it have nice slack import tool. Please give a try.

Can you elaborate on "threaded nature"? Mattermost has threads...

Yes, both Mattermost and Element have tools that can.

(BTW, I tried Element and regretted it (massively lacks polish) before switching to Mattermost and I'm loving it!)

Sorry, you specifically mentioned "these dumps". I don't know about "those" dumps. Mattermost and Element can import everything from Slack, but it might require following their instructions.

Since no one has mentioned in the thread yet: Slackdump is a great way to dump Slack: https://github.com/rusq/slackdump. Is there any alternative chat system that will import these dumps?

I was just thinking of a similar idea last night: anynews.conspiracy ? Anything you search for generates a conspiracy theory article on the topic.

Sometimes it feels like the internet is still the wild west.

The EU tries to rope off a single building with velvet ropes, a doorman, ID verification, facial scans, and cookie banners, while next door it's an illegal rave in an abandoned supermarket.

It always felt both "a cheap shot" and "valid" to express dismay that characters in video games don't react when you do things like jump up and down on their table.

While it's impossible for game developers to write code to cover every situation, AI could make general reactions possible.

It's surprising that really simple things like this haven't been tried yet (AFAIK!). Like, even if it's just the dialogue, it can still go a long way.

Any opinion on why Immich instead of Photoprism? I’m considering to pick one of them for my media library and Immich not being labeled as stable scares me a bit.
hrdwdmrbl · 3 months ago
I personally use Photoprism, though I don't love either.

Both still feels like the sad-er side of open-source WRT polish - stability, reliability and ease-of-use.

I would be willing to pay for something great that I can self-host, but sadly nothing truly great exists.
