Infinite Luigis Theory:

I get a sense that we are beginning to see a resurgence in lone-wolf style operator activism and crime (or terrorism, etc., depending on your view of things), sort of like was more common 30+ years ago, a la the Unibomber, Skyjacker, all of the serial killers in the 60-80s.

The reasons of “why now” and “why lone wolf” are complicated but mostly boil down to high availability of information (awareness of opsec) and relatively low trust amongst social groups and of institutions, coupled with a more online and more destabilized male demographic the younger you go.

The more the behemoth of bureaucracy and total control will grind and (o)press the societies to atomized individuals, the more lone wolfs will crop up.

Passkeys deployment reminds me of a cartel agreement among FAANG without the actual coordination. It's too good of a new tech frontier not to colonize.

There are parts of France that are simply off limits because the volume of UXO left over from WWI was deemed too much to even try to clean up: https://www.warhistoryonline.com/world-war-i/zone-rouge.html

WWII??? We haven't managed yet to clean up after WWI! For example, nearly every day unexploded munitions are found on the former Isonzo frontline.

Thank you, I’ve been looking for an explanation of this. So Mono is useful to Wine because its users care more about licensing and running legacy software: Mono is free software and an acceptable runtime for pre-.NET 5.0 stuff.

Wine is becoming like archive.org, but for win32 runtimes.

I hope there will be some changes on that soon, have a look at https://openid.net/specs/openid-federation-1_0.html.
high_5 · a year ago
Ha, just found out you already posted the spec. Still, even if it gets published, IMO multilateral federations will migrate veeeery sloooooowly.

Unless your customers are primarily in higher education/research, then just take the time to figure out SAML. Higher ed collaboration requires eduGAIN, which requires SAML (because SAML has mature multilateral federation support).

Even higher-ed&research will deploy OpenID federations. The spec is WIP: https://openid.net/specs/openid-federation-1_0.html

every form of visual programming I've ever seen is a singular style of some of a box that does processing and a line that connects that box to another box.
high_5 · a year ago
Because programming is essentially about receiving the input data, transforming it through a process and in the end outputting it in some other form?

Eric Schmidt has weird fetishes about not just weapons but military personnel in general:

"The Israeli tank commander who has fought in one of the Syrian wars is the best engineering executive in the world. The tank commanders are operationally the best, and are extremely detail oriented. This is based on twenty years of experience working with them and observing them." —Eric Schmidt.
Start-up Nation by Singer et al (p. 41).

All tank commanders are perfect fit for next Napoleon.

Is there an alternative? (I currently only use Signal).

Also something where features work? Since this week my Signal "Something went wrong with you username, it no longer is connected to you. You can try to get a new one"
