I’m an Obsidian user. I pay for Obsidian sync, and I love the philosophy behind their product. However, and I feel stupid for saying this, but I just find it confusing to use. It’s difficult for me to wrap my head around plugins, and understanding how it wants me to use it.

For now, I’m just sticking to using it for daily notes, but I feel there’s so much I’m missing.

I was kinda similar when I first started using it. I watched heaps of videos and had so many plugins installed but I was never really sure if I was doing it "right". Then one day I got annoyed and uninstalled every plugin and just went back to basics. I only reach for plugins when I feel something is missing, but honestly the only plugins I use are Style Settings which let's me customize the theme a bit more and Calendar so I can have... well... a calendar.

I think the real power of it is the fact you can extend as much, or as little as you want!

Thanks! I'm guessing it's blocked on your work/uni network too? Stupid over-eager firewall.

I know technology has come a long way, but it is amazing to me that they can fly two hunks of metal through space and align their positions down to a millimetre, while being a footy field and a half apart.

I wouldn't even know where to begin to tackle a problem like that.

A normal frame rate is probably enough if you do it with groups of columns rather than a single column of pixels. That's what https://trains.jo-m.ch/ does with a Raspberry Pi camera, posted in https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35738987 with lots of questions and answers.

Oh wow that's neat! I honestly didn't think of using chunks instead of a single line and the result looks pretty good.

I love the fact the top (or first?) comment is by dllu, and looking on their webpage I saw the tram photo from Wikipedia! It's cool to see the photographer talking about their work. I think about that tram photo so much.

Line scan cameras operate on this principle, and are still used in various ways to this days. I'm especially partial to the surreal photos generated by them at the end of cycling races

I love line scan cameras. Wikipedia has an awesome photo of a tram taken with a line scan camera on the relevant wiki page[1].

I've just moved to a house with a train line track out front. I want to see if I can use a normal camera to emulate a line scan camera. I have tried with a few random YouTube videos I found [2].

I think the biggest issue I face is that there simply isn't the frame rate in most camera's to get a nicely detailed line scan effect.

The Telesync version is out for days too and it's pretty good quality.

But honestly the workprint version's jankiness somehow makes it fun. Like those music videos with music removed on Youtube

I remember years ago seeing a prerelease version of one of the wolverine movies. As the CGI models were still grayscale, it was cool to see at what points the fights were actors and what points it was CGI.

EmptyEpsilon is used for a couple of interesting large scale or commercial immersive experiences, including the Odysseus larp and Bridge Command. I’ve written up both:

Bridge Command: https://mssv.net/2024/07/31/bridge-command/

Odysseus larp: https://mssv.net/2025/03/19/the-collective-ambition-behind-o...

There’s a discussion on HN about the latter, too: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43414992

Odysseus is the one of the few things to get me truly excited an quite some time. I will most likely never be able to attend one but by god I would love too.

I want to try get involved in the local event scene to get some experience. I think the only way I will get to experience something like Odysseus it is to run my own.

I have been screwing around with the idea of converting a video to a line scan camera. I wrote a small blog host about it. [1]

After seeing an example image on wikipedia someone took of a tram [2] I want to try do it to the trains that run near my house.

Man, there is no way I can read this. I got choked up just reading the titles of the blog posts, knowing what was coming.

I remember being younger and not being emotionally bothered by anything. Yet as I get older I am able to relate to so much more and everything hits so much harder because of it.

Hah! I waited far too long for the page to load. It wasn't until I moved my mouse to another window that I realized.
