Go is fast and memory safe. It has some data race protections built in but doesn’t go as far as rust. This has its benefits like not having to deal with borrow checker insanity (or rust syntax for that matter)

Unlike python or java, it’s both compiled and fast

haimez · 9 months ago
Java is both compiled (first to bytecode, then to machine code by the JIT) and fast (once JIT compiled).

> a complex APT supply-chain attack

What do you mean by APT? If you mean Debian's package manager, that's not what this attack was. This was done upstream and affected non-apt distros just as much.

It's true that upstream is part of apt's supply chain but focussing on apt is misleading.

edit: why the downvotes? I get from the responses that I was wrong but given how the exploit was initially found in a Debian system and a lot of people very quickly jumped on the “Debian patched a thing and broke security” bandwagon, I don’t think it was much of a leap to wonder if that’s what was meant.

Acronyms and initialisms are not the best way to convey specific information.

Does that take care of deleting the files inside the bucket? That's an API call ($). Depending on the data that could be quite a bit.
haimez · 2 years ago
Delete API calls are free, listing the objects in a bucket to know what to delete is not.

Yes, nevermind the most expensive housing, education and healthcare ever, even in inflation adjusted terms. No it’s the children who are wrong.

you might look at the birth rates in china or almost any other Asian country, and see how your vague rant holds up.

haimez · 2 years ago
Let’s be a little charitable here- having and raising children has been a much, much more dangerous proposition health wise even at your parents generation to say nothing of your grandparents generation.

I think the key benefit brushed on by this article is the potential 10x improvement in access speeds (which has many applications, beyond reducing your s3 op charges).

> S3 Express One Zone can improve data access speeds by 10x and reduce request costs by 50% compared to S3 Standard and scales to process millions of requests per minute.

haimez · 2 years ago
10x reduction in latency, higher storage costs with lower access costs (SSD instead of spinning disks). So high I/O, small files situations (with no need for cross AZ access) are where the benefits can be found.

Or like SSD’s vs spinning disks…

If they're stolen, go prove it in court. The logo doesn't really enter into it.

Counterfeiting parts, including passing even a small part off as an original OEM one, absolutely enters into it
