Unless the remedy is that Google's online ads has to be spun out into a separate company away from their control, I don't see how any remedy can be effective.

What can honestly be done to punish them? I mean punish too, certain entities of Google should not exist.

They also have a partnership with Tailscale that can't be undersold.

I'm not sure how much it adds to their bottom line for each sale, but my corp was using the Mullvad VPN addition to tailscale to do global testing by our developers.

IE; "is something blocked, do we detect GEOIP properly" etc;

And Mozilla VPN as well.

This is a built-in feature of the Wireguard app on iOS, not sure about other platforms.

Why is this dubbed as an alternative to Google suite and not Microsoft suite? They even used the Microsoft icons.
george_perez · 4 months ago
I think because it's web-based only, much like Google Docs and the like are. For my Cryptpad replaced Google Docs as a live-collaboration tool.

Microsoft Authenticator is annoying.

It doesn't work if you have notifications off or "do not disturb" on, so I can't log on to anything in the evenings.

george_perez · 4 months ago
When in DND notifications still work, they're just under the fold and you need to swipe up to see the Microsoft Authenticator notifications.

Wow, thanks for sharing! I thought that might be the case but "disable it or we'll have to nuke your data" seems so extreme I thought there must be a better way.

I'm thinking that by losing their iCloud account is just means it will be blocked from syncing anything with Apple's servers.

Been to proton for a little less than a year. Really disliked it. It’s too locked in.
george_perez · a year ago
I'm guessing regarding being able to use it outside of their apps, no? That's my main concern. I'm mainly a Mail.app user and having to run the bridge all the time does not seem ideal for me. I haven't tried it out so this is just me talking from the outside.

Watch still under Steve, put it in other way, it's last product under his supervision.

Doesn’t look like it.

> Ive began dreaming about an Apple watch just after CEO Steve Jobs’ death in October 2011. He soon brought the idea to Dye and a small group of others in the design studio.

Did the developer have any special agreement or contract with Twitter that the API would always be available? If not it sounds like an unacceptable professional risk to base your livelihood on the whims of another entity.
george_perez · 3 years ago
Not sure about special agreements or contracts, but Tweetbot along with other high-profile third-party apps (like Twitterrific) had way, way more API tokens available because of their size when Twitter started restricting the number of API tokens an app could have assigned for the lifetime of the app. API tokens for new apps were way more limited, around 10,000 I believe. Tweetbot and Twitterrific, while they never disclosed how many tokens they were given as legacy apps, were still to this day accepting new users, so the number seems to be way more than 10,000.

And they had access to a less limited API (request-wise) to make their app work better without constant rate limiting nags.

"We’ve been listening to feedback from developers around the world about what will be most helpful to them as they build innovative apps"

Lol, the feedback is surely "stop deleting all your documentation without replacing it" and also "please don't make me re-download Xcode for 3 hours using an account I forgot the credentials for in your terrible app store with its unresumable download flow... before I can do anything", but they came up with this?
