I find it extremely amusing that the US government has over the last several years become one of the world's largest traders in bitcoin. It's not quite the path many were predicting back in the early 2010s, but Bitcoin has been full of surprises.

If history is any guide, the bitcoin will be auctioned off sooner rather than later.

Basically both MRI and satellite imagery are forms of remote sensing. You want to have someone on the ground eventually to confirm your findings.
flattone · 5 years ago
Isnt all sensory work ‘remote’ including our eyes?

I mean this question with genuine curiosity

I’m a little surprised they went to a press release but didn’t say they identified a structure in a cadaver. So, at the moment, this is sort of like a geological feature that’s only ever been seen using a satellite.
flattone · 5 years ago
What does that mean? (Zero medical cadaver background, with regard tk the distance of validity between one or the other). Satellites are a lot more powerful (hehe) than our eyes, so my understanding Of your point failed.

What I’m wondering: people talk about long term effects and we have 9-10 months of data. I remember I had a cold couple of years back and couldn’t taste nor smell for 3 months or so. What about long term effects for people who have gone through other diseases like the flu for example?
flattone · 5 years ago
Also what about things like haircuts. And other stuff. Burnt toast. Hang nails.

I apologize. I never get more than 4 hours of Sleep. And this seems like a friendly jab over wanting to compare the flu to a different virus.

Pure humor from an also honest place.

Living in the city is awesome because of the awesome things about living in the city.

Living in the country is awesome because of the awesome things about living in the country.

Some people prefer one or the other, even to the point of thinking their way is superior.

Welcome to humans.

I want a smart speaker in the kitchen, because for a few functions (timer, weight conversions and arithmetic) it's really useful, and hands-free which in that particular context is really important. I feel like I could build something that did this for me myself iff I could get the wake-word functionality. Does anyone know of any open-source wake-word detection that's feasible to run on a Pi?

I've honestly never understood why these sorts of posts (even for those larger companies with services everyone relies on) get so much traction on HN. I can very easily tell for myself when a site is down, and it's not hard to find most companies' service status page. Sure, if a few days later we get an interesting/detailed post-mortem from the company, I'd find that interesting, but "X is down" does not tickle me intellectually at all, and just wastes a slot on the front page. The inevitable speculation as to whether it was a bad deploy, a bad configuration update, a DDoS attack, whatever, is just not really interesting, though I guess (IMO unfortunately) enough people here find it interesting.

Of course, I'm here commenting, so somehow I got enticed to click through to the comments, so who knows what that says about me...

Following the events outage is usually a pretty interesting drama, to me.
