Any idea why they didn't use GPT-4o image generation?

Someone here shared an interesting comparison of models performances, and Gemini does seem much better

Another glaring giveaway is the over use of numbered lists and bullet point lists.

Personally it makes me less likely to read it but the content might be useful. I have some general tech interest but am not overwhelmingly interested in the subject. Sometimes good things crop up on HN too.

Now, if an author was writing for an audience with the intention to attract the interest of people who were not enthusiasts to become enthusiasts of their product they would create something readable and attractive. The LLM hasn't here.

Together, this leads me to think that the readme is not for me but is just for dedicated enthusiasts.

I've personally always preferred number lists and bullet points rather than wordly paragraphs that say the same thing.

I guess that makes me an LLM

Why do none of the modern phones have a flat back? It's crazy to me that seemingly everyone is jumping on the train to have the camera stick out from the back. I guess the camera lens needs more space, but why not then add some additional material so it's still even? I feel like I'm missing something obvious, do people not put down their phone on flat surfaces or something?

If Apple with their trillions of dollars decided that their new phone should be a thinner one, it tells us that the general public for some reason likes it.

When I was commuting daily in the SF fog, I discovered that putting on of these [1] on my helmet did wonders to keep cars further off my tail. It moves the brake light up to eye level for people in SUVs and also triggers on engine braking.

Wish it were cheaper, but was a worthwhile investment for me.

Also, consider looking into airbag vests if you ride regularly. Also expensive but (supposedly) make a huge difference in crash outcomes.

There are some ridiculously cheap "smart" bicycle brake lights that already react to slowing down

Not entirely on topic but a relevant warning. Extasy is used nowadays as a rape drug. Be careful. I have had extasy three times in my life, none of them consensual -- every single time it was slipped into my drink. I described the symptoms to my psychiatrist and she said that it was extasy for sure. I am a middle aged man and not incredibly attractive. God knows what is happening to young sexy people.

So if you are having a drink somewhere and you suddenly unexpectedly get this really happy, warm and cozy feeling, as if everything is alright with the world, there is love everywhere and you just have to hug and kiss somebody, anybody .... well do not hug or kiss anybody. You may have just been drugged.

There is a very troubling lore about MDMA, in that it apparently it is not such a bad drug, etc. I don't know about this ... I do know that a lot of MDMA deaths happened at the extasy fueled raves that were popular in the 90s and the early 2000s. They say those deaths were from other causes ... I do not know if this is true, but I have a feeling that this mantra of "MDMA is not that bad it is all about love, etc. " has been taken up by would-be-rapists to convince themselves that what they are doing is not that bad. That MDMA is not really a rape drug like Rohypnol, so there is nothing wrong in slipping one into a person's drink.

Well they are wrong. It is a serious crime and it is attempted rape if intent is established.

I confronted one of the guys that slipped me MDMA. It is not difficult to guess who did it, they usually make sure they are close to you when you are having those "I need to hug and kiss someone, anyone" feelings. He essentially admitted it without saying it outright and started laughing. Thought it was a cute thing, like something out of a romantic comedy.

I wish I had proof to send all those f*ckers to jail but of course when you are happy on MDMA you do not think to save the evidence for the police. But next time I will. I have thought about this enough that next time I will recognize the symptoms and do what needs to be done regardless of how happy I am feeling.

If anyone cares, none of these events resulted in sexual assault, I am a very careful person and I do not easily give in to strange feelings.

So you have repressed feelings towards men that are only able to come out when taking XTC?

XTC doesn't make you want to kiss anybody, you might lower your standards, but won't make you attracted to men if you aren't already before taking it.

It's somehow not, I've been asking it the same questions as ChatGPT and the answers feel off.
exadeci commented on Google will develop Android OS behind closed doors starting next week   9to5google.com/2025/03/26... · Posted by u/josephcsible

I hope they make it closed source and make us much money out of it as possible for shareholders that is their job and their duty, why are they giving this away for free they have already captured market share by claiming opensource and building a community now all they have to do is make it proprietary and the old opensource version slowly wither and become unstable, then they can charge money for the operating system just like mircrosoft but this time on phone millions and billions of phones, $$$$$. /S (I obviously do not agree with this)

If you actually read the article, they explain that it isn't actually that big of change to how it was done.

" For a while now, Google has been developing most parts of Android behind closed doors in its “internal branches,” with the “AOSP branch” only having certain other aspects of Android’s framework (including Bluetooth, kernel, and some other core components). As such, it’s been quite a while since the current state of AOSP is at the same level as Google’s internal builds, leaving developers and others to wait on Google to make a public release to get all of the new changes.

With this change to move everything to its internal, private development branch, Google isn’t changing the speed at which these new builds arrive. Rather, this will potentially streamline the process and prevent conflicts when merging the branch"

It's less the app, more the business decision to tell people who had spent thousands and thousands of dollars on elaborate sound systems to go throw it all in the trash and start over, all at once.

Even Apple has never been that bad. They drop support for things over time but even their roughest transitions (x86, Apple Silicon) have come with extensive day 1 support for previous functionality.

exadeci · a year ago
That's not the app change you think it's.

The app update they're talking about is the one that got released last year which is terrible, it keeps crashing, doesn't work with time zone and a bunch of other stuff

This would be pretty great for generating descriptions for the vision-impaired, but it doesn't provide any profound insight beyond what you can tell from a glance.

It has a lot of "trying to sound smart" waffle, for example, it had this to say about some tree branches:

> A careful observer will also note the subtle variations in the thickness and texture of the branches, implying a natural, organic growth pattern.

Gee, thanks, I might've thought it was an unnatural inorganic tree otherwise.

Facebook has been doing for years a basic alt-text generation (not the best but better than nothing) eg: May be an image of 4 people, people smiling and text

It idles down to 2.7w. Obviously it's not a desktop class system still, even when consuming its max rated power draw. But it idles low enough to be a fantastic little local server for simple applications.

Pine64 boards have been beating Raspberry for years in both performances and price.

I've got their first board since 2016 and it's been running cooler than a raspberry pi 4 (2019) with the same software on it.
