Based on Fedora which is owned by a US company. Why?
software supply chain issues. they may try to fork their own everything in time, if it gets that bad...
the same reason the US had to find out how chinese rare earth magnets made it in to the F35, for example.

If this were really a fictitious persona meant to lead investigators away from their true identity, they'd never admit to such. This sounds like someone trying to deflect upon being found out. I'd wager that this person is going to be caught.

I feel like Big Tech management is simply in revenge mode. Managers and executives felt a tiny bit less powerful for a small amount of time due to their workers pushing for remote and having the leverage to do so. Now that interest rates have wrecked the employment market they are wasting no time going scorched earth on their current remote employees. The narratives they keep shoving down peoples throats are insulting at best. They should just tell everyone they want to stand over people and feel powerful and get it over with.
maybe part of it, certainly many reasons for this decision.
more likely, it's a constructive layoff and they want to justify real estate cap-ex

Kandula's laptop was seized by the police and the script used to carry out the deletions was found on it.
full disk encryption is a thing. it's amazing how people who are otherwise technically competent leave such obvious incrementing evidence on computer
i dunno what privacy/civil laws are like there, but couldn't the police or courts compel Kandula to surrender the password?
